Overview

My Rotten Redheaded Older Brother by Patricia Polacco

There's nothing worse than a rotten redheaded older brother who can do everything you can do better! Patricia's brother Richard could run the fastest, climb the highest, and spit the farthest and still smile his extra-rotten, greeny-toothed, weasel-eyed grin. But when little Patricia wishes on a shooting star that she could do something — anything — to show him up, she finds out just what wishes — and rotten redheaded older brothers — can really do. Patricia Polacco's boldly and exuberantly painted pictures tell a lively and warmhearted tale of comic one-upsmanship and brotherly love.

This book inspires me because when my mom was pregnant I wanted it to be a girl because I didn't want to share my toys but it turn out to be a boy. So when my redheaded little brother Dorian tured 1 year old he started to be a little wesle and I started to hate him. Well as long as he is my little redheaded little brother i'll still love him.

This is a wonderful book about typical sibling rivalry paired with the love between a brother and sister. Patricia Polacco once again uses her own childhood to create a funny, touching, easy-to-relate-to story. I read it to my classes from 3rd to 5th grades and all enjoyed it! You will too!

This story will be appreciated by anyone who has had an older brother or younger sister. The teasing and taunting challenges that go on between the two characters are so typical. As the younger sister, Tricia never seems to measure up. But, when all is said and done, her big brother Richie, watches out for her and his true feelings of affection shine through. Makes a great read aloud for ages 7 and up.
