One good friend deserves a lover...
Lady Eleanor Palmer, a practical young widow, wants a family of her own. Her first marriage was an adventurous disaster, so this time, nothing but the most proper sort of man will do. Absolutely not who she's looking for? The impulsive, roguish Duke of Hampshire...even though she has secretly loved him as long as she can remember.
Nicholas Langford, the Duke of Hampshire, has always relied on Eleanor's humor and good sense. Who else would guide him through a scandal with laughter and grace? He would do anything to ensure his old friend's happiness--even help Eleanor find a suitable new husband.
As Eleanor makes plans for a new life without him at its center, Nicholas realizes the depth of his own feelings. But he can offer Eleanor nothing that she thinks she wants. How can he convince her that he is everything she truly desires?

My Scandalous Duke is a fun, quick novella of friends to lovers. Although a novella, this story develops without missing out on the love story. Ellie and Nicholas have been friends since childhood. Ellie has always loved Nicholas but when he didn't show any signs of returning her affections, she married someone else. Now that she is a widow and looking for another husband, Nicholas starts seeing what was always there. Great story. Thank you Theresa Romain for this prize of a book.
Lady Eleanor Palmer grew up with Nicholas Langford and has loved him all her life but she never could get him to notice her. She married and was quickly widowed. Now Nicholas is the Duke of Hampshire and still sees Ellie as a friend. Ellie wants to be married and have her own home and family. She is still in love with Nicholas but feels it is hopeless since he is now a duke. It takes another man to express an interest in Ellie for Nicholas to wake up and see the woman that will be the perfect wife is the woman he has known all his life. I received the book free from Goodreads and highly recommend the book for its sweet love story between Ellie and Nicholas.
Lady Eleanor – Ellie – Palmer had been living at her brother Sidney’s for a few years, since she became a widow, but with the arrival of Sidney’s first child, Ellie feels it’s time to move on. She does want to marry again, but to someone proper, not like her late husband, the dashing wastrel Adrian Palmer. Ellie dreams of someone who will love and respect her. Sidney and Ellie have been friends with Nicholas Langford, the Duke of Hampshire, since they were children, and Nicholas proposes that Ellie stay at his mother’s estate while she is away for the Season, which seems ideal to Ellie: it will make it easier for her to find a husband. Nick is wife-hunting, he’s merely looking for a woman who will provide him with heirs and let him be. Things are going according to plan for both Ellie and Nick until a very unusual event changes everything. And that unusual event is brilliant, and one I don’t recall ever having seen before. Nick is one of the most complex characters I have ever seen: he takes his duties that come with his title very seriously, he’s extremely meticulous and orderly, and still a bit of a rogue. He’s also very playful, and sometimes a bit too impetuous for the good of those around him; he doesn’t always think before he acts. Ellie has always loved Nick, he’s the reason why she had married Palmer, and even if she still sees Nick as a friend, she’s not going to make the same mistake twice; Nick is too much like her late husband. Ellie is a lovely character, and Ms. Romain conveys beautifully the melancholy that lingers in Ellie’s heart, which is not always apparent to everyone. It was so easy to identify with her; through the sunny, witty banter she engaged with Nick, there remained a touch of resignation and sadness to her. Theresa Romain’s prose is as light and shimmering as butterfly wings, MY SCANDALOUS DUKE is all delicate pastels, and gorgeously written. I have loved every book of Ms. Romain’s because of her refined touch, her clever dialogues, her understanding of the affairs of the heart, and her touching and beautifully human characters. And the ending is simply glorious! MY SCANDALOUS DUKE is another splendid book by the incomparable Theresa Romain! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Lady Eleanor Palmer jumped into a disastrous marriage and now that she’s a widow, she’s determined to marry someone who is nothing but proper. Unfortunately, Nicholas Langford, the Duke of Hampshire, the man she’s been in love with for years, is anything but proper. Along with Ellie’s brother Sidney, the three have been the best of friends and grew up together, which might be why Nicholas is so willing to help Ellie find a suitable new husband. I thought Nicholas was a lovable but clueless young man, who couldn’t see that his good friend would make him the perfect wife. He won me over though with his enthusiasm and joy in giving her the perfect birthday gift. I was disappointed at first with Ellie, because she was determined to enter into a safe, but loveless marriage, and she deserved better. I quite enjoyed this couple working it all out, it made for a lovely conclusion to the story.
