It is rare to find such an insightful and self-less book about cats. In these pages the author steps back and invites the reader to join her in discovering the largely hidden world of the street cat. This is a book about heroism and fear, great friendships and rivalries, birth and death. It tells of the highs and lows in the lives of a community of street cats in Jerusalem, spanning over 14 years, and of their relationship with the woman who fed them and cared for them as much as they allowed. In the end, though, it is a story about street cats and their relationship with each other. I found the book both deeply moving and disturbing at times, for the lives of street cats are far from easy. But in these pages I learned more about cats and about my own perceptions and misconceptions about these amazing animals than I ever did through living with my cat or reading any other book about cats. For this book offers a unique and profound perspective into the lives of street cats that is unlike anything that is currently available. This is due to the author's rare insightfulness, clear observation skills, and unbounded compassion. Together with her sense of humor and uncompromising integrity, the author creates a passionate and honest tale that no cat-lover - indeed no animal lover - would want to miss
