Overview

This omnibus edition of the hugely popular Myst trilogy is published to coincide with the release of Myst Revelations, the latest in the line of the bestselling Myst interactive CD-ROM games.

The award-winning Myst series is one of the most successful interactive CD-ROM computer games in history with sales of more than 12 million copies worldwide. Myst captivated the world when it was first conceived and created by brothers Rand and Robyn Miller. Its extraordinary success has gone on to spawn Riven, Myst III Exile, and most recently, Uru: The Ages Beyond Myst. Devoted fans of these surreal adventure games gather yearly at "Mysterium" (whose event sites are spreading to other countries) to exchange game strategies, share stories, and meet up with old friends.

The Myst Reader is a literary companion to the CD-ROM games and a compendium of the bestselling official Myst trilogy: The Book of Atrus, The Book of Ti'ana, and The Book of D'ni. Devoted fans and new players alike will be delighted to have three books in this mythic saga together for the first time in one value-priced volume, which will be published in time to coincide with the long-awaited release of Myst Revelations.

If you've played the computer games Myst or Riven you will certainly find this a great backstory to those games. Even if you haven't, the concepts are wonderful and the characters well developed. I purchased the books separately when they were first released back in the 90's and it is great to see them all together for a very cheap price. If you are a lover of sci-fi this is one to get on your shelf.

Having only played the original myst game (over 15 years ago at that), I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy this adaptation. I must say I enjoyed it immensly. Although the rich descriptions brought back memories of the lavish settings from the game, no prior knowledge of the MYST world is required. The first Two books, The Book of Atrus and THe Book of Ti'ana were outstanding. Only the third book, The Book of the D'ni left me feeling a little flat. Well worth it for the first two books alone if you are looking for an excellent non traditional fantasy setting.

These books contain some of the most beautifully written sci-fi fantasy i have ever read. You do not need any knowledge of the games to enjoy these, but if you have played them these books will resonate with you all the more deeply. They give amazing depth to an already gorgeus world. A must read!

Many people I have tried to push this book on say something such as: 'It sounds interesting, but I never played the game.' WORST EXCUSE EVER. This book actually has nothing to do with the game. Some aspects of the book (such as using books to link to worlds) are shared with the storyline as the game, but not much else. This is an excelent sci-fi/fantasy book with it's only pitfall that people assume that because it shares the same name as a videogame that it will not be as fantastic as it is.

I can read these over and over again and never tire of them. It always makes me wonder if something like this could exist, is D'ni out there somewhere just waiting to be found?

Shouldn't the third book be titled "The Book of Dunny" since the were written before riven came? (It wasn't called d'ni until riven)
