About the Author

Sally J. Smith and Jean Steffens, are partners in crime—crime writing, that is. They live in Scottsdale, Arizona, awesome for eight months out of the year, an inferno the other four. They write bloody murder, flirty romance, and wicked humor all in one package. When their heads aren't together over a manuscript, you'll probably find them at a movie or play, a hockey game or the mall, or at one of the hundreds of places to find a great meal in the Valley of the Sun.

nola, psychics, resort-hotel, amateur-sleuth, women-sleuths, paranormal, murder-investigation, humor Read on August 22, 2016 What a fun mystery! And it's set in my favorite city to visit, NOLA! Well, technically most of it is in the imaginary Mystic Isle Resort, but it's still on the bayou. The characters are just too much fun, and the humor is excellent. The mystery plot is well executed with many interesting twists, and the locale descriptions are clear. The publisher's blurb is adequate and is no spoiler. Looking forward to the next book with great anticipation!

I loved this book!!! I could not put it down. The characters in the book are so well developed that they seem real!! You know just about everything about each character and you don't get them all confused. I love Melanie and Cat her best friend. I enjoyed the light romance as well. The setting is New Orleans and some of the characters had a Cajun or deep south accent and I loved it. I hope that a new book in the series is written quickly!!!

On her days off, Melanie Hamilton helps her neighbors repair St. Antoine's Parish after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. During the week though, she works at the Mansion at Mystic Isle, a haunted house where she is the artist at their Dragon and Deities Tattoo Parlor. Her best friend Catalina Gabor is the resident gypsy fortune teller, while handsome Cap'n Jack is the new general manager who has literally become the man of her dreams. A wealthy guest offers a hundred thousand dollar bonus to resident medium Great Fabrizio if he is able to help her own psychic contact her late husband, but it unexpectedly results with she being the one who crosses over to the other side. With police suspecting Fabrizio as having had a hand in helping her prematurely meet her husband, Mel is unable to allow the man she considers to be a grandfather figure be sent to prison. The authors have found a unique and delightful setting for this novel that blends together mystery, romance, and a dash of the paranormal. Mel is likable, Cat a whirlwind of comical impulsivity, and Jack an alluring ally and suitor. The number of suspects within the Manor multiplies and evolves, making this a continually surprising and always fun mystery. -Cindy Chow

This book has several things that I enjoy in a book. It has myster, humor and a ghost or two. It is also set in New Orleans which I have always wanted to visit and the city fascinates me. Melanie and Cat are best friends and roommates. They both also work at The Mansion at Mystic Isle. The Mansion is across the Mississippi fro New Orleans. Harry Villars has turned The Mansion into a haunted house. Fabrizio, the hotel's resident medium and a father figure to Mel, is scheduled to hold a seance for one of the wealthiest guests whose husband has just died. Fabrizio requests that Mel attend the seance to round out the number of attendees. During the seance there is a murder which Mel starts investigating with the help of Jack Morgan, the manager. Mystery, mayhem, humor, caring people, good works are all her in this book. It is a delightful read with laugh-out-loud moments.
