Mythical Monsters by Charles Gould

In Mythical Monsters, author Charles Gould argues that "many of the so-called mythical animals, which throughout long ages and in all nations have been fertile subjects of fact and fiction," are actually creatures that "really once existed, and of which, unfortunately, only imperfect and inaccurate descriptions have filtered down to us, probably very much refracted, through the mists of time."

About the Author

The Author has to express his great obligations to many gentlemen who have assisted him in the preparation of this volume, either by affording access to their libraries, or by furnishing or revising translations from the Chinese, etc.; and he must especially tender his thanks to J. Haas, Esq., the Austro-Hungarian Vice-Consul at Shanghai, to Mr. Thomas Kingsmill and the Rev. W. Holt of Shanghai, to Mr. Falconer of Hong-Kong, and to Dr. N. B. Dennys of Singapore.
For the sake of uniformity, the author has endeavored to reduce all the Romanized representations of Chinese sounds to the system adopted by S. W. Williams, whose invaluable dictionary is the most available one for students. No alteration, however, has been made when quotations from eminent sinologues like Legge have been inserted.

-Mythril's Revenge-
Final Destination• Prologue
The wind whistled with it's bitterness hate, the thunder rumbling lowly in the dulled sky. Lightning crackled acrlss the black clouds, it's startling stark electricity pulsing through the darkness.
The soft crys of a child could be heard, and the hootingly angry yowls of parents at war. There I watched, hiding myself in the darkest corner of the room, feeling hot tears streak against my face.
"Then maybe She should be sent away! She'd be better in a fr<_>eaking Asylum!" I flinched, harsh words undertoning my Fathers' deft remarkings. I could hear my Mothers' pained filled wails, and heard her angered yelps as she retorted my Father.
Simmon, only a month in age, cried loudly, his wails high-pitched and ear-shattering. I could feel the heat of anger pulsing from my Father, as he abruptly whirled on Simmon.
He was going to kill my Brother! I thought, holding back a cry of hatred. All I could see now were the uprising shadows of my Father, as he lifted a knife high. I closed my eyes, when a sickening thud made me jump in my terror.
Scarlet red blood stained along the hardwood flooring, and my Father had vanished into the drumming of the storm. All that was left was my Mothers' corpse, and maybe my Brothers'. A small cry alerted me, and I admit, I felt a strong sense of happiness, as I reached out, and pulled Simmon to me.
I stared blankly at my Mothers' limp body, my orbitals burning with killing anger, and I remember swearing revenge on my Father..I'm Mythril Adams, and this is my story, my story, and my revenge.
