Overview

Nailed: Ten Christian Myths That Show Jesus Never Existed at All by David Fitzgerald

Why would anyone think Jesus never existed? Isn't it perfectly reasonable to accept that he was a real first century figure? As it turns out, no.
NAILED sheds light on ten beloved Christian myths, and, with evidence gathered from historians across the theological spectrum, shows how they point to a Jesus Christ created solely through allegorical alchemy of hope and imagination; a messiah transformed from a purely literary, theological construct into the familiar figure of Jesus - in short, a purely mythic Christ.

Myself and most of my friends, from atheists to deeply religious folks, believed that a "Jesus" walked the earth that later grew into the myth or the reality of the Jesus of miracles, etc. In his destruction of the ten myths, Fitzgerald approaches them with different points of attack, so even when I didn't completely agree with him on an argument or wasn't swayed by his argument, he had many approaches to challenge each myth. The weight of the totality of his arguments per myth was overwhelming to me - I am now convinced there never was even a regular "Jesus" that became the mythical Jesus. Even if one already believes there was not a Jesus, or one will remain convinced there was a Jesus, simply reading about the historians of the time, how the world functioned in those times, how the bible was written and revised over time and many other aspects of the period was fascinating to me. Great read (and a quick, easy read, too)

Very interesting short book (was able to read it during a 3.5 hour flight). Lots of indisputable arguments supporting his assertion. Fitzgerald probably won't change the mind of a devout Christian, but anyone who doubts the religion's veracity will want to read more and research more on this.

An interesting book, Fitzgerald seems more intent on debunking Xianity than on the historocity of Jesus. A much better book dealing with Jesus is David Klinghoeffer's Why the Jews Rejected Jesus.

Excellent research from an author unafraid of challenging the establishment. An easy and entertaining read that will open your eyes.
