First Mate Owen Chase's first hand account of the harrowing events and perrils suffered by the crew of the whale ship Essex is more fantastic than fiction. That he had the spirit and jpresence of mind to document their travails so completly is testament to not only his abilities but the courage of the entire crew. This book is a must read for all americans whatever your background.
