I was quite surprised at how good this story actually was. It's about 800 nook pages and was well written in comparison to other books i've read. While a fictional story of a lady in waiting to Romanov family there are elements of historical accuracy. It's an interesting what if story with a surprising ending.

This is my first book by this author. It is about 800 pages. I too was compelled to research this portion of Russian history and found it to be very accurate. The detailes were sad. I was glad to learn that there is a sequel. The female lead and male lead are good people. The male is strong and protective. I am sad about the disrespect etc of The Family. Good read.

A fascinating historical fiction woven so well that I was compelled to look up some details to see which were history and which were fiction. This book is not for young readers - surprisingly not so much because of the violence, of which there is quite a bit naturally, but very few violent scenes are described in disturbingly graphic detail. (Most are left to the reader's imagination.)  It is the many explicit sexual scenes that make this book unsuitable for young readers.   Which is a shame, because the novel brings history to life in a way that connects with the reader.  The players are made human with both their good sides and their faults revealed.  The book created the conflicting impressions that revolution was inevitable, but might have gone quite differently if the personalities or events had not combined in just the way they had.  Choosing to tell the story from Natalie's point of view made it very interesting. I found the book hard to put down - reading late into the night to see what happened next and so finished it in just a few days. Well done!
