Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"4 stars! In the second of the One Scandalous Season series, Dalton stirs the plot with sensuality, mistaken identity, danger, a woman's risk of scandal and a man's vow of retribution, and blends it all in this very touching love story."—RT Book Reviews

RAVE REVIEWS FOR LILY DALTON'S NEVER DESIRE A DUKE:

"Dalton's Regency debut resonates with real feeling...Unlike some one-note tortured heroes, Vane is sincere and appealing. Sophia's pain is very real, and every interaction is fraught with honest emotion. As they struggle to recapture their romance, readers will feel deep sympathy with both characters and hope for them to find happiness."
Publishers Weekly starred review"

The first in Dalton's One Scandalous Season series grabs the reader's emotions in an intensely passionate love story, filled with misunderstandings, past indiscretions, trust and forgiveness. But, for all the intensity, this gifted storyteller also deftly lightens the mood in a very well-written and satisfying read by adding a few zany characters bent on mischief and mayhem."

Written as a combined review with the first book of this series 4 out of 5 for this reader folks! I love it when I discover a new author in a fave genre. The One Scandalous Season series by Lily Dalton had a great balance of all the elements I love in historical romance. We have some tradition, rakes, scandalous ladies, angst, sass, stubbornness, wealth, poverty, misunderstandings, action, a sense of friends and family and a secondary cast that make sure you have a chuckle here and there. Tie all these together and you get "Never Desire a Duke" and "Never Entice and Earl". BOOK 1 - Never Desire a Duke DESCRIPTION A secret from his past holds the key to their future... A Marriage Beyond Hope Lady Sophia has long been estranged from her husband, Lord Vane Barwick, the Marquess of Claxton, whose rumored list of amorous conquests includes almost every beautiful woman of the ton. Yet a shocking encounter with him in a crowded ballroom—and a single touch—are all it takes to reawaken her furious passion for him. But how can she trust the man who crushed her dreams and took away the one thing she wanted most? A Love Beyond Reason Lord Claxton has never forgiven himself for the youthful mistake that ruined his marriage to Lady Sophia. Now, after nearly a year abroad, the reformed rogue vows to win back the only woman he's ever truly loved. He'll do whatever it takes to prove he can be the honorable husband she deserves—and the passionate lover she desires. As the snowdrifts deepen outside their ancestral home, can they rekindle the flame that burned so bright and find a new path to forever? REVIEW OH MY! I listened to this book, and I have to say the narrator really nailed this performance. My heart pounded in my chest, leaving me a ball of emotion. She had the voices down perfectly, her pace and tones complimentary to the story!  Lady Sophia has just been living her life day by day. Married to Lord Claxton, yet estranged, she is shocked when one day out of the blue Claxton decides to pop back in her life with the desire to make their marriage work. Sophia however, so scarred from a past full of misunderstandings with Claxton, not to mention a huge loss that has left her heart broken, isn't interested in what Claxton has to say. After being stranded together in one of the ancestral homes due to a severe snow storm, Sophia proposes they separate but produce a child so that Claxton has an heir. Once their child is born, no more contact. Claxton is beside himself and decides to dig deep to woe his wife back. With the help of sweet little town and the amazing people that live there, Sophia and Claxton begin to face their past and decide on whether they will face the future together or apart. Of course, there are always a few nasties waiting to strike ...... LOL! BOOK 2 - Never Entice an Earl DESCRIPTION For fans of New York Times bestsellers Elizabeth Boyle, Jillian Hunter, Sabrina Jeffries, and Nicole Jordan... A ONE SCANDALOUS SEASON NOVEL A Deception Most Reckless Lady Daphne Bevington would do anything for her maid Kate-including masquerading as Kate and sneaking around the wrong side of London to settle the poor girl's debt. Now, the closer Cormack gets to uncovering the villain who haunts the ton's ballrooms, the more he realizes that the lovely lady is in danger herself. Will he abandon his quest for revenge-or risk losing his one chance at love? (85,000 words) REVIEW I really enjoyed this book. it was slow to start but once it got going .. BAM! Lady Daphne is Lady Sophia's sister. She is sweet and kind, a realist in many ways, about to experience her first season and the most coveted of the ton. She does not like the idea of marriage and vows to never marry. She is fiercely protective especially to her lady's maid Kate who has found herself in a world of trouble. Deciding to disguise herself as Kate, Daphne plunges into the dangerous side of London to take care of Kate's debt. Lord Cormack is on a mission. He must find a certain villain that has done his family wrong, and serve a good dose of vengeance. When he rescues and shares a moment of passion with a beautiful woman on the wrong side of town, he is gob smacked when that same woman appears in the ballroom and apparently is a member of a wealthy family. Deciding that this information can aid his own cause, Cormack blackmails Daphne into helping him. Cormack suddenly realizes that the table are turning when the level of passion and perhaps love escalates, and he gets more than he bargains for. These two books are very different but have similar elements. Book one is more heart wrenching and angst filled, while Book 2 is more action packed. Both tell a great story of love, and the couples really are complimentary to one another. I am really looking forward to the third book anticipating the ride I'll be taken on next. If you love historical romance, this is a great series to add to your list! HAPPY READING

This is book 2 in the One Scandalous Season series. Lady Daphne Bevington would do anything for her maid Kate and when Kate's family gets into financial trouble Daphne does the unthinkable. To help pay back the debt her family owes, Kate has been dancing at an underground brothel. When Kate comes down with food poisoning, Daphne steps in to take her place. She never imagined that the place would get raided by the police and she would have to run for her life. First her carriage is stolen and then a man attacks her. Luckily she is saved by Cormack, a merchant. Lord Cormack Northmore is at the brothel to find information about the man that seduced and abandoned his sister. When he spies Daphne on the stage dancing, he know that she does not belong there. When the police raid the place, he quickly chases his quarry, but they get away. He hears a woman's scream and finds Daphne being attacked. Quickly dispatching her attacker, he gets Daphne into his carriage.   Daphne explains to Cormack why she is at the brothel (she gives him the name of her maid Kate and her story) and he vows to take care of the financial situation. Thinking to never see each other again, they give into the attraction the feel for each other with a scorching kiss. What will happen when they find out the other was lying about who they are? Will Cormack reveal that Daphne was at a brothel and ruin her reputation or will he keep her secret? I throughly enjoyed this story.  I loved Daphne and the fact that she would do anything to help her maid.  You don't often see that kind of relationship between a member of the ton and their servants. I also liked the fact that Cormack didn't grow up in high society, so he wasn't enamored of all the "rules" that society follows. It made for some interesting scenes.  Dalton also keeps the reader on their toes with several plot twists. You just didn't know what would be the next surprise to pop up. There is nothing worse than figuring out the twist of the story before the author reveals it. Dalton did a splendid job of keeping me guessing. I can't wait for the next book in the series, Never Seduce a Scoundrel, which come out in the Fall.

An absolutely sweet and lovely romance, Never Entice an Earl was a fantastic historical romance. I loved this book! From the wonderful romance to a surprising secrets, this book was amazing. Daphne was a lovely heroine. She was very loyal to her loved ones and would do anything for them. Even brave the seedy part of London and wind up in a brothel. She was wonderful and I really liked her. Cormack was delightful. He was so very sweet and so protective of those he loved. I thought he was absolutely adorable. The romance was both sweet and hot. Daphne and Cormack were lovely together. They had an odd start, to say the least, but, even from then, their feelings for each other were clear. And, the chemistry between them was constant. They really could turn the heat up. I thought they were a perfect couple. The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. There were some secrets in store, with one in particularly that took me by surprise. The truth about Laura, Cormack's sister whom he spends the book trying to avenge, was something I never would have guessed. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely. Never Entice an Earl was a brilliant historical romance. I loved this book so much! It was a sweet, lovely, fun romance that I truly enjoyed. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll definitely want to read. *I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Lady Daphne, lost her father in an accident that she blames herself for. And has dedicated herself to her family and their happiness, and has decided to never marry no matter how much her mother wishes to change her mind. When she learns that her closest friend and maid, Kate, has gotten into some trouble, from a debt for her family, she decides to go about London, in the wrong part of it, and act the part of a servant to help pay off the debt. But she doesn’t expect to meet Lord Cormack Northmore, on her adventure, and after sharing some sizzling embraces, she knows that this will be the only night that she will be able to enjoy a night in his arms, never to see him again. But when Cormack recognizes her among the Ton, they engage in a battle of sorts, of passion and discovering secrets…and before they know it, they are uncovering a hidden desire that threatens to inflame them both… I will say that this book just might be my favorite of the series. After reading all three books, and I did love the third book, but this installment, I just adored. I loved everything about this story, and it had the type of story line that really intrigues me…which can be difficult to do when it comes to regency romance. So many authors write in this sub-genre of historical romance, so it’s always a delight, to find one that really gets my interest from the beginning. Of course Lily Dalton, has the writing style that is very engaging on each page. So you can’t help but get fully into the story from the first few pages. But the way she develops the characterizations and the building up of the story line, really had me. You see how inventive this author is, and the way she puts some unique twists in the story. There is an underlying mystery in play as well, which kept me guessing from beginning to end. The characters were just lovely, and I just loved both of them. Cormack, was a delight, and boy did he throw some curveballs into the story, but what a fun one he was. He definitely knows how to take Daphne in hand, and doesn’t let her get away with deceiving him. Daphne, was just a good one, and it can be hard to find in historical romance at times, but she is so passionate and stubborn and a bit willful, but I enjoyed that about her. She really seemed to brighten the story up and add some adventure into it too. Never Entice An Earl is a well written romance, of engaging characters, sensual delights, a beautifully crafted plot, and a story to keep you fully satisfied…TERRIFIC!!

My Thoughts: There's so much to this story that had me anxiously turning the page. Oh, Daphne, you little troublemaker, you. Between her and swooning over Lord Cormack on more than one occasion it was a sweet little journey. Now, I love me a good first kiss, and a good buildup to a first kiss. This one had a great one between Cormack and Daphne while she was pretending to be Kate. "His lips made her think of kissing, rather desperately, even though of course, she didn't want to kiss him. Not a stranger. Because that would be wrong. And impetuous! And not just a little unseemly." I don't care how unseemly it is, Daphne... *giggles* It all just amuses me so. Their romance continued once he discovered who she really is. Well, after he got over his anger toward her for deceiving him. And it was lovely. Never Entice an Earl had me reading and reading and reading. Loved Cormack and Daphne together, just plain together. I could definitely dive into another one of Lily Dalton's books without hesitation. The romance, the deception... it all added up to a great book. My Rating: Very Good

I enjoyed this book and am delighted with both books in this series by Ms. Dalton.  The characters are intriguing and the story line just different enough to keep my attention.  If you love regency romance, you will enjoy this book.

Lily Dalton’s second in the Scandalous Season series delivers again.  After her fantastic Never Desire a Duke, Dalton continues to produce a great romance that sucks me right in. The heroine, Daphne Bevington, masquerades as her maid in an attempt to right a wrong. In her pursuit to help her maid, Daphne meets the man of her dreams, Cormack Northmore. The story centers on whether these two can find happiness when Cormack is promised to another while Daphne vows never to marry. Both have believable reasons for their actions. The author’s voice is perfect and in my opinion, keeps getting better.  I can’t wait for the next in the series.
