Never See Them Again by M. William Phelps

Seventeen-year-old Christine Paolilla had her whole life ahead of her…that is, until she murdered her best friends. Award-winning investigative journalist M. William Phelps takes us inside a crime that shocked the nation.
In the summer of 2003, the Houston suburb of Clear Lake, Texas was devastated when four young residents were viciously slain. The two female victims, Tiffany Rowell and Rachael Koloroutis, were just eighteen-years-old—popular and beloved. But when a killer came knocking, it turned out to be someone they knew all too well.
Seventeen-year-old Christine Paolilla was an awkward outsider until the girls befriended her. In this gripping true story, complete with 16 pages of dramatic photos, M. William Phelps delves into the heart of a baffling mystery to get to the truth of an act so brutal it could not be understood—until now.

I am not a reader, but when I heard this story was coming out I put in my order as early as I could. When I got home from work on March 1st it was on my porch. Today March 3, I've completed it. I was so into this book I couldn't put it down. I walked more miles on the treadmill in the last 48 hours than I have walked all week. The writer did a great job with this book. It brought back so many memories of the endless days spent in the courtroom during this trial. I was impressed. After speaking with several friends who love M. William Phelps, I will be reading more of his work!

This is my first true crime by M. William Phelps and I wasn't disappointed. Phelps offers insight into the brutal slaying of 4 teenagers that no newspaper could articulate. The timeline was laid out so that someone like me (who isn't from the Houston area and never heard about this crime) could follow easily. Each time that I put the book down the story stayed with me, beckoning me to finish. Phelps starts his book with the discovery of the 4 teens and takes the reader thru clues that were right there but because of mislabeling and an understaffed police department, the discovery and conviction of the killer doesn't come to pass until October, 2008. The reader feels the hopelessness and frustration that family members went through. One thing that is obvious is that there were a few people that never gave up and because of them the killer was eventually caught. I will definitely be picking up another book written by Phelps. Caution to some people, Phelps goes into vivid detail of the crime scene and it is not for the faint of heart. (ARC was provided by publisher for an honest review)

This is an excellent read! William Phelps, author of this book, has a true gift for writing. Staying true to the events and reviewing every report, watching all the interviews and providing his own research and interviews, William brings together this sadistic and horrendous crime to life. There were quite a few times I had to put the book down and just process what I had read. Where there were moments of joy as family member recounted good memories of their children, whose lives were tragically ended in a violent and sadistic manner. William also brings to light the depression, mental illness, and other issues that could have contributed to the reasons behind those who murdered friends. There are quite a few dark moments in this books and as a reader, I could sense the darkness that enveloped the murderers as they were tortured and continued to self-inflict through drug use. However, William doesn’t make excuses nor does he try to reason why they murdered their friends. Rather, he simply lays out all the pieces of the puzzle and helps bring closure to the family members left behind. This is an excellent book that every parent should read.

This was such a sad and traggic story. These four kids with so much potential instead chose to lead themselves into a path of destruction. Easy way out. No need for a job, sell drugs. Lie around the house all day watch TV. I had least sympathy for Rachael. She had such a loving family who cared so much for her. A beautiful home and a father who made sure all she had all the comforts she needed. Instead she chose to turn her back on them and move into a drug infested home with a bunch of losers. Where were the parents of Tiffany and why would they turn their house over to her to do as she pleased. As a neighbor, I would certainly alert the authorities. As for Christine, she deserved much more than she received, the death penalty. I think the author did a decent job writing this story. Caution, you may feel depressed for a few days as the details will linger in your mind and know that it was for real.

I was familiar with this author from his appearances on the Investigation Discovery channel, but had never read any of his work. When B&N recently offered this book as one of the in-store "Buy One Nook Book, Get a Nook Book Free" selections, I quickly headed to my local B&N and it was definitely work the trip! This is the tragic story of four young adults, right out of high school and still trying to find their purpose in life. Unfortunately they were murdered before they had a chance. This book delves into the killer's life and association with the victims, and reads like a real-life thriller. Anyone familiar with this murder from television portrayals will like reading the book as well, because it reveals much background information that TV time restraints do not allow. Another plus is that unlike some true crime e-books, this one includes photos at the back, directly before the copyright page.

Another well written book by Phelps, my 11th book ive read. The lives of those 4 young adults were taken by two monsters that i still question why?? I dont understand the way people think and the awful actions they take towards innocent victims. We all have had rough lives, i could write a book how awful my childhood and part of my adult life that was awful but i dont think that gives me a reason to heart goes out to the victims n families.

This is a pre-ordered ebook that I will not receive until some time in Sept of 2012 so it is hard to write a review for it. :) I had no problem ordering it and won't even be charged for it until it is downloaded to my Nook Color. Thank you for the ease with which all of your books are to order and get onto my ereader/nook color.
