A Wonderful read!!!! Has so many helpful tips and training advice. The book really helped me to train my puppy and now thanks to this book my lab is 2 1/2 years old and is VERY well behaved. I would definately recommend this book to anyone with a puppy.

I have read and utilized many books on dog training with varying results. Many books out there swear by cruel and antiquated methods of training that I feel increase fear levels or provoke aggression in some dogs. Other books recommend turning your cheek to destructive and annoying behaviors. And yet other books are so dry that they are hard to follow period. Shelby Marlo's New Art of Dog Training has a common sense approach that has worked wonders on my young dog. I recommend it to anyone that is considering adding a puppy to their home or has an older dog with ingrained behavioral issues. Every topic is covered from breed selection and rescue to how to read body language to socialization and training (as early as 7 weeks!). Ms. Marlo asks us as owners to be involved as much as possible in our dogs' lives and tells us exactly how to set them up for success all with encouragement and love with reinforcement dogs understand (no more anthropomorphizing). The book dispells common myths while updating readers on the newest breakthroughs in the field. And last but not least its an easy read, I read it cover to cover in two days!
