Back pain is a fundamental problem to all human societies;
its impact is substantial, though it may have different manifestations in different cultures. While much of the world's research on back pain has been undertaken in Europe and the USA, the basic underlying issues are common to all societies and nations. This book takes an evidence-based approach to the problem, and explains how the manifestations and consequences of back pain are best explained by a biopsychosocial model. Moreover, it explains how this model has major implications for the practice of physiotherapy as well as other clinical disciplines: there is clearly a need for change in what healthcare professionals do for people with back pain. This book, it is hoped, will have an important, positive influence on physiotherapists and other professionals, and will help guide them to an increasingly evidence-based position when managing their back pain patients.
