Here is the follow-up to Sunset's Easy Basics for Good Cooking (1982), which has sold more than 800,000 copies. This new edition includes 300 recipes, charts, step-by-step illustrations, and color photographs of various techniques. However, the recipes are rather unexciting, and the line drawings and photography have a somewhat old-fashioned look. Recent revisions of other basic cookbooks, such as Betty Crocker's New Cookbook (LJ 5/15/96), would be a better choice for most collections; Prevention's The Healthy Cook (LJ 4/15/97), though more specialized, is another good basic title. For libraries where other Sunset books are popular.
