Overview

The United States Military Academy has been an elite institution at West Point, NY that has provided a strong education for young men (now also women) to lead the troops and formations into battle. The research in this study focuses on the appointments of young men by New Jersey as cadets to the academy, their achievements in studies as well as their military careers and service into the U.S. Civil War (from 1861 to 1865).

About the Author

Richard T. Irwin studied History to earn his BA at Lebanon Valley College and his MA from Temple University. He pursued historic preservation of sites and of the records in the State, County and towns where he has resided. His work and research has been acknowledged and included in the Morris Author Collection at the Morris County Library.
