New York Swing: Jerome Kern

The group New York Swing, featuring guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, pianist John Bunch, and bassist Jay Leonhart, recorded a series of sessions together during the 1990s, mostly drawing from the great Broadway composers of the '30s and '40s. This songbook consists of swinging treatments of 14 selections by Jerome Kern, though it doesn't stick exclusively to his most widely known hits. The subtle take of "I Dream Too Much" is just as important to the session as the foot-tapping take of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" and the fresh look at "Yesterdays," both excellent features for Pizzarelli. Drummer Dennis Mackrel replaces Joe Cocuzzo, who appeared on two earlier CDs.
