Can’t wait to see what’s next. I couldn’t stop reading Next. The situations Bob got himself into as he attempts online dating are hilarious. I felt like I was sitting beside him as he describes the disasters from each date. Everyone needs a Jenny in their life to laugh with you when things go from bad to worse. And everyone HAS a Chris in their life to facilitate some of the craziness. Next is a fun, fast read that everyone will enjoy. But, if you are heading back out into the dating world after a long hiatus, you have got to read it. It’s almost like an owner’s manual for what not to do. I can’t wait to see what Robert James writes next!
Contemporary dating etiquette wrapped up in a neat bundle of light-hearted fun. There is so much in this book that I related to and I’m sure many others will do as well. Some of the stories are quite outrageous but I found myself laughing out loud at several points. Getting the chemistry right in the dating scene can often feel like a mythical quest, but Next shows you can at least have a little fun with it along the way.
Whether you’re the kind of person that loves first dates or loathes them, you will undoubtedly be able to relate to the antics in Next: The Search For My Last First Date, and identify with the struggles of a forty-something out of the dating loop and trying to find his feet. Trials and tribulations, near misses, catastrophes written with a subtle tongue-in-cheek humour that will make you empathise as well as laugh out loud. A real rarity to have this type of book written from a male perspective, and all the more rewarding because of it.
I just finished this book last night. And yes, I just asked my entire friends list to Like the FB page. (That's better than sending game requests) Next let's you be a fly on the wall of some of a real gentleman's dates over the past several years. When you read it, guys, you may have dated the same ladies, so you may have a laugh. Although I'm sure the ladies that he dated have many good points, they just didn't know to hold back the 'cray cray'. I found some of the situations to be a little sad. It's hard to find the right chemistry and timing when looking for love. It also helps if they live close by. I also laughed out loud at some of the sweet naïveté he had about modern dating. We don't always get it right, but we should always keep our sense of humor, stay open to love (or love right now), and be ready for the next time.
