Achingly beautiful and heartbreakingly shattering story of survival, healing, and true love. It breaks them into a million little pieces and it has to, to be able to make new again, built a completely new so one can heal, to find courage to stand up for themselves, and to learn what love really is, how it is to trust, love and to be loved, and still be safe in the arms of your forever mate. The story pulled me right in and I was mesmerized with the characters, the flow of the tale, and how those two broken souls, find peace, love, and safety for their hearts with each other. Nic has dedicated his life to the family restaurant and his daughter after his wife walked out on them. Not even dating since the divorce couple years back, he has no need for a relationship, not to mention one with major complications. But when Anna and her daughter Lacey show up in his family restaurant one night looking for work, Nic feel drawn to her, wanting to help, to keep them safe, give them a new chance in life. And the journey they take from there, though it has nightmares, danger, and pain, it is the road towards healing and mending hearts, to learning to trust, and love, care, and protect like never before. This sensitive and poignant story got straight to my heart. It is at times dire and violent to get the whole picture of the torture Anna has gone through in her life, but with the healing love of the community, and with the support and care of Nic, they find something worth holding on to, something worth working on, something more special than most because of the drastic situation it grew from. The images are vivid and colorful and might be triggering to those suffered from abuse, even though the message of the story is filled with hope and faith for better tomorrows. ~ Five Spoons

Wow, this story was powerful! Once I started this book I had no clue what was going on around me I was so drawn into this story. The author incorporated a heated romance, heartwarming story, with suspense that kept you on the edge of your seat. "Nic" by J.M. Stewart is book number two in the "Rossi Brothers" series. This is Anna Thompson and Nic Rossi's story. Anna divorced her husband several years ago. Anna is hoping that Angel Bay will be a good place for her to raise her daughter and to hide out from her abusive ex. She is desperate to find a job to stay in Angel Bay. Nic is a quiet and kind man raising his daughter with the kind of love that he was raised with. He meets Anna when she comes into his restaurant to find a job. Anna has a hard time trusting people but accepts Nic's offer of a job and help. Due to their bad past relationships neither Nic nor Anna are looking for a relationship. They both feel the attraction between them. Will they be able to ignore these feelings? Will Anna's ex catch up with her? Nic and Anna's characters were great. But, I fell in love with Nic. He was just wonderful! This is a must read! This can be read as a standalone but I intend to go back and read Luc's story. J.M. Stewart stories just keep getting better and better. FYI, includes mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

NIC is the second installment in J. M. Stewart’s contemporary, adult, romance series. This is single father/ restaurateur Nic Rossi, and single mother Anna Thompson’s story line. NIC can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story line is revealed where necessary. Told from dual third person perspectives (Nic and Anna) NIC focuses on the building relationship between Nic Rossi, and Anna Thompson. Anna and her young daughter Lacey are on the run. Three years since her divorce and Anna fears her ex-husband will make good on a promise to destroy her life. Abused and battered, Anna sought solace at a women’s shelter, and has been on the run ever since. Landing in Angel Bay, Washington Anna finds a job, a temporary home, and a man who calls to her heart. Enter single father Nic Rossi- a man whose own heart was shattered years before. NIC is a story of ‘second chances’. As a single father Nic’s sole responsibility has been his daughter Ella but with the arrival of Anna Thompson Nic’s idea of family now came with the possibility of a future with Anna and her daughter Lacey. Anna is determined to stay one step ahead of her abusive ex but complacency finds Anna facing down her greatest fear. The relationship between Anna and Nic is one of immediate attraction but Nic suspects Anna is running from a dangerous past. When Nic offers up his home to Anna and her daughter temptation is at hand. The sex scenes are intimate and romantic. We are introduced to Anna’s co-worker Beth whose own past is mired in abuse. Nic’s brother Luc and his wife Liz, as well as their daughter Alyssa and nine month old Sam round out the family setting. NIC is a story of family and friendship; betrayal and revenge; heartbreak and moving forward. NIC is also a story of one woman’s struggle to free herself from an abusive ex-an ex who is determined to take back what he believes is his. The premise is sensitive and dramatic; the characters are passionate and intense; the romance is emotional and intimate.

Anna Thompson and her daughter Lacey are on the run from an abusive ex-husband who will stop at nothing to find her. Anna and Lacey wind up in Angel Bay where Anna set out to find a job to help support her and her daughter. She finds herself in a restaurant late one night begging for a job when she first meets Nic. At first she is intimidated by the size of the man due to the trauma of her ex’s abuse but soon learns the man is a gentle giant. Nic was first introduced to us in Luc (book #1 in the Russi Brothers series). Nic is a single parent himself and his sole focus is on his daughter. He had no intention of trying to find love, he wife leaving the two of them turned his heart cold towards relationships, until the night Anna and Lacey walk into his restaurant. He sees the fear in Anna’s eyes and knows she is hiding from something or someone. Guys, this story, wow I just don’t really know who to put it into words. It was deeply emotional and suspenseful. I felt like I was right in the book with the characters and feeling every emotion with them. I have read several books by this author and they really just keep getting better. While this book contains sensitive material (abuse by the ex-husband) it gives up hope for second chances at love and finding a HEA. I cannot recommend this book enough. I received an eARC of this book compliments of the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.

Loved, loved, loved!! There is nothing not to love about these Rossi Brothers. Nic Rossi is living life quietly working in the family restaurant and raising his young daughter. He knew his life would never be the same when a scared young woman and her daughter come into his restaurant late one night looking for a job. He knows instinctively that this woman is troubled and running from something or someone. All Anna Thompson wants is to give her daughter the stable life and childhood she deserves. Her abusive ex is making that all but impossible. On the run for 3 years now Angel Bay seems like paradise but if she doesn't get a job she won't be able to feed her daughter. Trusting Nic Rossi is the hardest thing she's ever had to do but if she does she might find that perfect life she's looking for. Put this one on the must read list. I highly recommend it.

4 1/2 STARS! Shattered from years of abuse, a young woman sets out to find peace for her daughter … and lucks into finding a gentle, kind soul who won’t let them live in fear anymore! Easy to like characters who bring a realness to the story make you have a vested interest in seeing them through to a happy ending. On the run from her abusive ex-husband for years, Anna Thompson just wants a real home and consistent life for her young daughter. She thought she was getting settled, and then he found her again. Now she’s hit an all time low with no job, no money and no place to stay when she lands in Angel Bay, Washington. She hears of a possible job opening, and sets out to try to get it. When Nic Rossi sees the women and child in his restaurant, he can tell they are in dire straights. He can tell someone has hurt them before and they need a gentle hand to help them. He gives her a job and sets her up with a safe place to stay and shows them kindness. They all relax into this safe place they have forged until danger gets near again. When her ex finds her again, will she find the strength to stay and fight for the life she’s made here, or will her fear of endangering Nic and his young daughter make her flee and start over again?
