Overview

It wasn't a skating star Berrien found early one morning at N'ice Skates Ice Arena. A stranger was curled up, not moving, dead. Neither Berrien nor Etienne, the live-in arena manager, had the faintest idea of the man's identity.

As the police began their grisly investigation more troubles surfaced when it became obvious that one of the arena's champions was missing. She was reported kidnapped, adding FBI agents to the law enforcement mix. A decidedly upset coach from the Midwest arrived in the California town to take back his pair team—one of whom is the missing girl.

Parents, skaters and coaches are all in an uproar, lessons cancelled, rehearsals for the up-coming show running overtime—in short, confusion reigned. First local, then national, media frenzy carried the unfolding drama to the nation. The ending is truly a "Grand Finale."

Author Bio: Joan Bartlett has been an ice skater (still is as Berrien could tell you), an ice-skating judge and a professional ice skating coach. She has produced, directed and choreographed numerous amateur ice skating shows, one of which is the background for "N'ice Shows." She lives with her husband and her proto-type Akitador in Foster City, CA.

I really enjoyed 'Nice Shows.' Just think, an ice-skating mystery with all the skating information correct. Wonderful! I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. I understand it is to be called 'Judge Me Nottingham.' Donald Jacoby, Member, United States Figure Skating Association Hall of Fame.

A refreshing look at ice-skating at its lower levels by an author who obviously knows the sport. A dead body found on the ice early one morning - is it murder? An ice show in rehearsal - how will it turn out? This book is an exciting return to the gentle mysteries of old. Fun characters who seem very real. I liked it a lot and can hardly wait for the promised next one, 'Judge Me Nottingham.'
