Overview

Nikon D7000: From Snapshots to Great Shots by John Batdorff

This book is for anyone upgrading from their Nikon D90 or current DSLR to the highly anticipated Nikon D7000. There's the manual, of course, as well as competing books, and while they all explain, often in 400+ pages, what the camera can do, none of them shows exactly how to use the camera to create great images!

This book has one goal: to teach D7000 owners how to make great shots using their new Nikon camera. Users learn how to use the D7000 to create the type of photos that inspired them to buy the camera in the first place. Everything in the book is in service of creating a great image.

Starting with the top ten things users needed to know about the camera, photographer John Batdorff carefully guides readers through the operating features. Owners get practical advice from a pro on which settings to use when, great shooting tips, and even end of chapter assignments.

I just upgraded to the D7000 and I found the book to be extremely helpful. I read the manual but didn't find it to be very useful with hands on explanation. The book was a perfect fit for me. I'm just getting back into photography and I found the chapter on composition extremely helpful as refresher course. The author shared some of his favorite settings which I thought was very useful for someone that's new to this camera. Overall, I thought it was easy to read and well organized. What I liked most was I felt like he was talking to me but not making me feel stupid.

I bought this book while on vacation. I'm fairly new to the whole DSLR thing and I was a little concerned I wouldn't be able to operate the camera. It's like the title was written for me. I just want to take our family photos to the next level. The book was a great. It really helped me with settings and getting a good feel for the camera. There are a few sections that I think the author could have gone into a little bit more detail but overall I would give it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

This book does a perfect job of living up to it's name - "From Snapshots to Great Shots" - it gives the insights from a pro on how to move up from snapshots to great shots. I have been taking photo's for 20+ years but only with point and shoots. Recently I got my hands on a D7000 and fell in love with the quality of the camera and pictures it takes. But then I realized how much more I need to learn about it. This book walks you through all of the specific camera functions and gives very helpful info on when to use them and how they will affect your photos. This book might not be exactly for a seasoned photographer but it never claimed to be. The Snapshots to Great Shots is a great series and being new to DSLR photography I appreciate having such a great book specifically written about my camera with all the secrets from a pro! If you are new to DSLR photography, want to learn more about your D7000, or even if you just want insights from a pro on when to use which feature then you will love this book.

I am an intermediate photographer who just bought a D7000 as my first upgrade to a DSLR. I found this book to be immensely helpful in getting to know my camera. It provides so much more than the manual. I love how it gives step by step instructions and shows exactly how to get the shots. The metadata is also really helpful in all of the images so that I can compare it. I think the author is really informational and inspirational. I also bought his new Black and White book which is another great addition to my library.
