Great read. Engaging characters. Fun world building. You have to let them build the world so don't give up after the first few chapters. Highly enjoyable.

While not a traditional alternate-history steampunk book, this one really came out of left field for me. The characters are engaging, and their personalities are solidly three-dimensional. Most of them, at least. There is a bit of wanton destruction, but it serves as decent plot motivation, and the worldbuilding these authors did is exemplary. If you're on the fence about steampunk, read this one, and you'll be hooked. If you're already a steampunk fan, you'll like this fantasy-novel take on the genre.
