Delightful and made us smile, and we quickly had to read the story to see the pictures, and find out how things came out. Then we read it again a lot slower to enjoy and talk about what happened. The story is beautifully illustrated with bright colors, and full of messages for young girls. Nina and Fiona go out of their way to help others, even when the weather got difficult, they show creative ways of using what they have to help. A soft sturdy paper back book that is fine for the hands of little ones, and for you as you read it to them, ours has been read a lot. A new favorite here. I received this book through The Cadence Group, and was not required to give a positive review.

Little Nina starts this story all smartly dressed with her hair well-fixed and tidy at the sides of her head. But this is a tale of a girl who can’t resist helping. Smart, strong and speedy, she uses her superpowers to return baby birds to their nest, shelter bedraggled kittens, and save baby turtles, until her clothes are dirty and her hair frizzes out around her face. Then, when Nina’s tired and weary, her animal friends come back to give her aid. Blending a child’s real and imaginary lives, Sonia Panigrahy’s smoothly written story invites small children to see their own superpowers and imagine their own friends. Bright illustrations by Hazel Quintanilla are perfectly tuned to the story, and I love the picnic food—please may I join in! This is a bright, happy picture book, easy to read, with plenty to talk about. And it’s kids-around-the-world ending is the perfect finale. Disclosure: I was given a copy by the Cadence Group and I offer my honest review.
