Children's Literature - Erin Darr and Marilyn Courtot
Move over, Catwoman! Here comes Chloe King! Chloe was a responsible student who liked hanging out with her friends, argued with her mom, and had a part-time job. Her whole world changed, however, on the day before her sixteenth birthday. She died, and then came back to life. It does not take her long to discover that she is undergoing some changes, changes that are a bit different than those caused by normal teenage hormones. For one thing, she can now run at a superhuman pace and not get winded. She can jump high and fall from heights and land on her feet. Oh, and another thing: she now has claws. With her newfound powers, Chloe becomes more confident and she finds herself torn between two suitors—one who represents what the human Chloe wants and the other what the cat Chloe wants. In addition to her problems as a human cat with romance issues, someone is trying to kill her. In the second story, The Stolen, Chloe's mom has been kidnapped by the Order of the Tenth Blade. Chloe's friends come up with a plan to help Chloe's mom and enlist Brian, one of Chloe's suitors. Chloe learns that she is more powerful than she thought and that she might be next in line to rule her group of Mai. In the third installment of the series, The Chosen (following The Fallen and The Stolen), Chloe King, a not-so-typical teen, becomes the "Chosen One" of a group of cat people called Mai. Chloe grudgingly accepts her role as the spiritual leader of the Pride and works to protect and defend her fellow Mai from the Order of the Tenth Blade, a clan of assassins bent on destroying them. At the same time, as this age-old struggle wages on, Chloe must make a hard choice between her two boyfriends, Alyec and Brian. Alyec is a fellow Mai and the rest of their Pride are already hearing wedding bells for them. Brian is the human son of the leader of the Order of the Tenth Blade and, by all accounts, should be her mortal enemy. Things are not just confusing for Chloe, either. Her best friends, Amy and Paul, are going through a difficult period in their relationship. Her new Mai confidant, Kim, is desperately trying to fit in with her human friends and, finally, Chloe's adoptive mom is still trying to wrap her brain around the fact that her daughter has claws and supernatural powers. Lots of action and angst in this one, folks! This is not a stand-alone book and should be read in conjunction with the others. Fans of the series will definitely enjoy this volume, as it is the best yet. Readers will watch as the characters continue to develop, especially Chloe, who grows a lot as a person (and as a cat) this time around. This is an entertaining series that has fast-paced action and quirky twists. With its mix of romance, fantasy, and humor, it will be addicting for fans of the whole "teens with magical powers" scene. Thomson's creative ideas and use of Egyptian mythology are a winning combination. Fans will eagerly await the next volume. The books contain mature language and sexual situations and are perhaps best suited for high school students. However, the three individual stories have been compiled together due to the creation of an ABC Family Original series for TV and it will be interesting to see how certain aspects may change. The Noine Lives of Chloe King was simply and purely awesome. All three books are in here, no doubt about it.So much cheaper than buying them individually. Chloe was a really lovable character that you could sort of relate with in some situations. Her choice between Alyec and Brian (and sometimes even Xander)kept me on my toes. A must read and a must see as it is now a TV show on ABC family.

I bought this combo after watching all the episodes on Netflix and then finding out the TV series had been canceled. After the season ending cliff hanger I really wanted to hear the rest of the story and see how everything played out. I found, however, that ABC made a family friendly version of the bad girl main character from the book. After a few chapters I stopped reading. The drinking, lying, school-skipping girl from the book is as opposite from the TV version as the blonde actress is from the dark haired Chloe the author created. I'm still disappointed that they decided not to continue the series and would watch again if it were picked up, but I wouldn't recommend the book.

This is an extremely good TV show, so it's a very good book too! I totally recommend this book and series on ABC Family! You should get this book so you don't have to buy all of the books seperately! A lot cheaper!

This book was a great easy to read story that I didn't want to put down. I picked it up after watching the tv show of the same name, and as is usually the case, found the book to be much better. I would recommend this to teens and adults alike. Happy Reading!

The book is awesome. You see what mistakes Chloe King makes understand what she is feeling. Its slides easily into each and every detail. I would suggest this if you like fiction and books that keep you on the edge of your seat!

The Nine Lives of Chloe King will have you falling down the tower with Chloe as you expierience the love, the mystery, and the creatures. You'll be biting your nails as the suspense grows deeper and deeper. I fell in love with these books and couldn't stop reading them. The show is good too, as I DVR each episode on abc family. This book will also appeal to fans of the bestselling Twilight saga, Vampire Academy series, and The House of Night series.

Because I enjoy the TV series so much, I decided to get the book series as well. They are different, but both stories are good. The thing that truley disappointed me was all the unnecessary foul language in the book series. It made it difficult for me to enjoy at times Think I'll stick to the TV version.

Saw the tv show they tried to create and it was pretty good (got cancelled) but it doesn't have nothing on the book. How I wish it had more nooks to it, I want to read more about Chloe and her gang ( friends ) A must read!!!!

If you are looking to see what happened to Brain in the abc family series then you won't get it here. Even though this is a great book the abc family series only take parts of the book and puts it in the show. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a book to read but not for looking to see what happens in the show.

Chloe king is one of the most entertaining reads for tweens and teens. The suspense of her love between Alyec and Brian (Team Alyec all the way) and Chloe discovering her new exciting-but often dangourous- life as anpart of the Mai race. I would highly recommend this book as well as the tv series which i LOVE :) As most people have heard The Nine Lives of Chloe King will be not making a second season. BUT.... the producers of the show are talking about a movie so keep your fingers crossed!!!

I did like the book a lot, but I was really confused about whether she had a brother that had nine lives like her, or if he was dead. Plus, the ending was really cheesy.

It was pretty good at the beginning but lost my interest towards the end. I'm an avid book reader and this story is good while the end didnt tie too well with the rest of the book. I suppose it ended "happily" but it felt too easy after all her struggles.

It was good but the tv show ruined it for me. I was completely expecting something else. Something like the show. It had close simularities but over all it was completely different. If i hadnt watched the show first i would have fallen for this novel but now not so much. It was good but it could have been better. Some language but overal a good read for 14 and up.

Well in this book there is the highly used romance scenario the love triangle. It has been used in this book very heavily and unoriginally. It is a good read but should have been less focused on the boring love triangle. It is predictable and slow at some parts but also have intetesting parts with detail and orginal thinking.

Omg!!! I LOVED THIS BOOK (or books, idk)!!!! It was a much better deal than having to buy all of the books seperately (which is good because i am, shall we say, financially challenged at the time). Advice for someone who is trying to decide wether to buy this book or not? I've got some: JUST BUY THE FRIGGIN BOOK ALDREADY!!!!!!!! My favorite thing to read in a book is about the girl who is all rebellious and freaking awesome with a good sense of humor, and I got that so i am very happy. I loved Chloe's character. Like i said, totes kick-a** awesomeness throughout on Chloe's part... XD Idk about you, but when im reading a book it absolutely has to have some *action* in it (and also romance, but i will get to that l8r). I love that instead of it being the same-old-same-old routine of guy-saves-girl, girl-instantly-falls-for-him crap. SO tired of that stuff. Go Chloe for showing up the guys in every single way possible!!!! Ok, so now with the romance. I kept mentally cheering for one guy, then i would ditch that and switch to cheerleader mode for the other dude. Thiso book (or books, whatevs) was pretty awesome and i couldnt put it down. You probably wont be able to either...... - PrettyPurplePegasus ;D

I had first seen the tv series and like others were wanting to know how the series ended after the cliff hanger of the canceled show. The books were bery good. My only issue with the books is that the first book was exelant im inteoducing the characters and the issused they would have to resolve. However the second and third book seemed highly rushed. It almost seemed as if the autor was tired of the series and ready to move on to their next project as quick as they could by resolving all the issues in the book quickly as possible. That said i would still recomend the books.
