Have you ever used a magnifying glass? It makes everything bigger and easier to see, right? Detectives and scientists magnify things to understand them better. Well that’s just what this Bible does—it’s a magnifying glass to help children understand the Word of God better.
The Bible is a gift from God, but many of the things written in the Bible are hard for kids to understand. In fact, sometimes they’re downright mysterious to kids. Using kid-friendly language and a detective theme, the two color NIV Investigator’s Holy Bible explains the Bible text for kids ages 6–10. Two central mystery-solving characters invite children to investigate the Bible using the following features:
- Evidence—Bible book introductions answer what kind of book it is, who wrote it, what happens, and the “best part”
- Breakthrough—answers questions kids might ask, such as “Who were the Philistines?” and “What is The Spirit of God?”
- Scene—includes descriptions highlighting geographical information pertinent to a verse
- Witness—explains the meaning and history behind Biblical names
- Detective—quizzes students on what they have learned
- Case Closed—explores how the events of a particular book of the Bible relate to children as individuals

If you have a curious kiddo the NIV Investigator's Holy Bible would be a nice gift for them. The entire premise of the book is to take a deeper look at what scripture contains. The investigation is done through the eyes of Mateo and Isabella and their dog Clooney and should appeal to the intended audience. While most of the takeaways and side notes or features are spot on I have to admit that there were some that didn't set right with my viewpoint of scripture. I think this particular Bible would be wonderful as a jumping off tool. Perhaps in a bible study setting or homeschool or christian school where the readers go through books of the Bible and read and discuss them with an adult leader. With that said I think it is important to remember and emphasize that the notes are from a human perspective but the actual text is inspired by God. Overall I really like this Bible and would recommend it to most. I would just take a look at the notes beforehand and be prepared to offer a more detailed explanation. I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.
Recommended for ages 6-10 this Bible is a great choice for a child reading the bible on their own. As you can see it has many areas of explanation for the reader to fully understand the who, what where and when’s within the cover of this edition. First, the disclaimer. "I was provided a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own." That done, The NIV THE INVESTIGATOR'S HOLY BIBLE is a colorful hard cover Bible (this one is not currently available in eBook) for children. The design is sure to appeal to either boys or girls. My daughter didn't like that it didn't have a ribbon (or two) to mark her place and no maps (things she deems important). She liked that it had a concordance, and the larger print . She did like the breakthrough sections featuring highlighted verses to memorize, answers to questions, and other trivia information, the scene sections, the witness sections, and detective sections. If you are looking for a new Bible for your favorite tween, then the NIV THE INVESTIGATOR'S HOLY BIBLE is one to consider.
