I don't review books that much but I was about to buy copies of this for my mother-in-law, sister-in-law and 3 nieces and saw the "boo hoo" review. I have to set the record straight. This is not a boo hoo type of book. This is a "WOO HOO!" type of book for all ages and genders. This is an exhilarating book that will make you look at a bunch of things in a new light (or possibly, in some cases, for the first time) and scratch your head in bewilderment ... how can women have so many opportunities and yet not have moved the ball very far? And, what can we do about it? That is the primary issue addressed in the book. It is also a "HOW TO" book - how to use all of the opportunities and power that you have to do what you want. And, just to enlighten the BOO HOO reviewer - the pay discrepancy between men and women is much more complicated than you lead the readers to believe. Not all of us elect to (or are able to) have kids or take maternity leave ... and by dismissing the pay issue as simply a result of parental leaves, you attempt to shut down the conversation before it can even get started. In closing, a central message of the book is that people need to listen to each other, learn from each other, support each other and figure out ways to help women AND men - of all races, ages, etc. be successful in life. NOT SIMPLY TO DISMISS THE CONCERNS OF OTHERS... or to call them cry babies. If you don't feel comfortable talking about the problem, how will you ever fix it? The older generation did a lot and made a lot of progress - you will learn about some incredible, history-making women. Anyway, it is important to know your history and know what the issues are facing women and families today. It is up to the younger generation and the middle generation to SEE the problem and fix it. You can't wait for someone to fix it for you. We have NO EXCUSES. I highly recommend this book.
A tired and exhausting beating of a dead fictitious horse named propaganda. I'm tired of these feminist twisting facts and data to claim victimhood for all women - suggesting that men have everything handed to them on a silver platter. The reason women make only $0.83 to the dollar men make is because women take maternity leave while men work more overtime to compensate in the decrease in the family income. Leave it to feminist to make this a reason to claim victimhood for all women.
