Overview

“What a box of tricks! This full-throttle thriller, dark and driving, rivals Agatha Christie for sheer ingenuity and James Patterson for flat-out speed. Swift, sharp, and relentless.”  — A. J. Finn, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Woman in the Window

A brilliant, edgy thriller about four strangers, a blizzard, a kidnapped child, and a determined young woman desperate to unmask and outwit a vicious psychopath.

A kidnapped little girl locked in a stranger’s van. No help for miles. What would you do?

On her way to Utah to see her dying mother, college student Darby Thorne gets caught in a fierce blizzard in the mountains of Colorado. With the roads impassable, she’s forced to wait out the storm at a remote highway rest stop. Inside are some vending machines, a coffee maker, and four complete strangers.

Desperate to find a signal to call home, Darby goes back out into the storm . . . and makes a horrifying discovery. In the back of the van parked next to her car, a little girl is locked in an animal crate.

Who is the child? Why has she been taken? And how can Darby save her?

There is no cell phone reception, no telephone, and no way out. One of her fellow travelers is a kidnapper. But which one?

Trapped in an increasingly dangerous situation, with a child’s life and her own on the line, Darby must find a way to break the girl out of the van and escape.

But who can she trust?

With exquisitely controlled pacing, Taylor Adams diabolically ratchets up the tension with every page. Full of terrifying twists and hairpin turns, No Exit will have you on the edge of your seat and leave you breathless.

I'm confused by all these positive reviews?!? The overview is intriguing, but don't be fooled. This book is garbage....poor writing, completely unbelievable, and completely unrealistic. Don't waste your time.

How's this for a premise? Snow storm, isolated rest stop, no communication and five strangers. And one of them has a girl in a cage in the back of their van..... That's the bare bones plot of Taylor Adams' latest book No Exit. Darby is the young woman who drives into the rest stop to wait out the storm. She's also the one who sees the young girl - and vows to rescue her..... Oh this one reads like a movie for sure! There are so many roadblocks thrown at Darby as she attempts to save not just the girl, but herself. Adams throws in more than one unexpected twist and turn along the way. Yes, some of them are far-fetched, but go with it. No Exit is most definitely action packed. Readers will be on the edge of their seats with each new revelation. The characters are a bit cliched. It's hard to believe that Darby survives each new curve thrown at her. But the reader can't help but urge her on. And the 'baddies'? Not hard to spot, but easy to hate. The actions and dialogue attributed to the seven year old girl do seem like they would come from an older child. There are most definitely some gruesome parts and creepy conversations. Kudos Taylor Adams - you made me squirm! That tension and action never really lets up. And I was fooled by the ending. *appreciative nod* No Exit reads like a movie and I wouldn't be surprised to see it on the big screen.

This book reminds me a lot of the Jack Daniels series by JA Konrath. Everything that can happen, does. This book takes place over a period of 24-hours. Stranded at a rest stop during a blizzard, Darby sees a young girl locked inside a van. She doesn't know who the van belongs too, so she doesn't know who to trust for help. Kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting for the other shoe to drop.

This is one of the BEST books I have read in quite some time. This book had me on the edge of my seat in the first 20 pages..I simply could not stop. I read the entire thing within 24 hours, staying up way past time to go to sleep. I highly recommend that everyone give this a shot. So far, my favorite book of 2019,

HOLY HANNAH THIS BOOK! I had heard amazing reviews of it, and so I knew I needed to pick it up ASAP to see what all the hype was about. I will say, I read ALOT of thrillers, but I don't remember the last one that had THIS MANY twists and turns that left me guessing, reeling and flat out shocked. I loved every single page. 100 percent be ready to read this one in one sitting once you pick it up. Taylor Adams did remarkable work making this a fast read, while never sacrificing the detail and the plot. I spent the entire night reading this one feeling as though I was just as trapped at the rest stop as the characters were. Heart pounding and insanely tense - literally the exact recipe you want for a thriller! I also appreciated that these were characters with some depth - flawed and human characters, and a wonderfully evil villain playing a cat and mouse game that has you rooting for them to survive the night.....but totally unsure if they really will. I won't say anything else, because every reader needs to be able to devour this one on their own terms. But rest assured this one deserves all the praise its getting!

Grabbed me from the first page. Great characters and the perfect setting for a terrifying night: a snowed-in rest stop in the Rocky Mountains. Never a dull moment for the reader.

Thanks to the publisher for the free copy. I picked this book up at the insistence of a coworker, who claimed to have read it in its entirety within a 24-hour period. My current reading situation included a lot of historical fiction, so I decided to listen to her advice; I was in the mood for a little break and palate cleanser. I started it after supper on a Saturday night and finished it over lunch the next afternoon. Ho. Ly. Crap.
The hype is real, my friends. Adams has crafted an intense, fast-paced, nutso 12-hour storyline that literally had my reading on the edge of my seat. I don't know how to talk about this book without spoiling it, so I'll give you a handful bullet points.
-Using such a tight timeframe, 12 hours from start to finish, was a brilliant way to jack up the intensity of this story. There is no way this would've been as exciting had it spread out over days or weeks.
-Darby is fierce, and smart, but also flawed and human, and I loved her as the main character. She is everything I'd hope to be in her situation.
-Sociopaths make such perfect I-love-to-hate-them characters. And I really hated these people.
-This is totally one of my worst nightmares.
That's it. That's all I'm going to say. This book blew me away and rocked my world (and all the other excessive phrases). Now go read it and be blown away yourself.

No Exit by Taylor Adams manages to move at breakneck speed, even though its action takes place in an enclosed setting over the course of twelve hours. It is almost Christmas Eve, and Darby Thorne is reluctantly travelling home from college through the Rocky Mountains after learning that her mother’s death from cancer may be imminent. A winter storm interrupts her journey and forces her to seek refuge at a remote rest area already encased in snow. There are a few other stranded motorists already waiting out the weather in the visitor’s center, and Darby figures that she will be in for a tedious wait before the plow trucks clear the way. When she ventures outside to try to get a phone signal, however, she happens upon a disturbing sight that sets off a shocking chain of events. Thrust into the role of heroine, Darby needs to take make vital decisions about who to trust and take some immediate action that will challenge her physically and mentally for the rest of the night. Adams does an admirable job portraying an average person placed under extreme circumstances. Can mental agility and strong moral determination triumph over brute force and callously evil intentions? A combination between a “Locked Door” and a “Ticking Clock” mystery, No Exit relentlessly ratchets up the tension and uses unpredictable plot twists to maintain its momentum. The reader can feel the claustrophobic chill as the evening grows darker and increasingly more sinister. This novel would captivate thriller fans and those who enjoy a story involving a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
