In Cindy Nord’s No Greater Glory, another Southern plantation has joined the famous Civil War plantations of Tara, Twelve Oaks, and now Shapinsay. To inhabit these literary plantations, there is a bevy of beautiful plantation ladies – Scarlett, Melanie and now Emaline. To consternate the ladies – Rhett, Ashley and now Reece. As a reviewer, I don’t normally contrast or compare novels to other novels as I think each one should stand alone. I am not necessarily changing my personal policy for this beautifully written book by Cindy Nord, as I believe that it does stand alone. The love story – fantastic! Fraught with desire and doubt! The research of the era - minutely perfect. Right down to the clothing worn by the characters. Emaline McDaniels meets the hated and feared Yankees when Col. Reece Cutteridge commandeers her magnificent plantation, Shapinsay, for his troops winter bivouac. They take over the whole plantation, including the bottom floor of the house to be used as a hospital. Knowing she cannot do anything about it, the beautiful mistress of the plantation bides her time. Soon, though, her hatred of the Yankee colonel is overshadowed by something else. What is it? Respect? Understanding? Acceptance? Another emotion more akin to love? Read Ms. Nord’s novel of the War Between the States, the Civil War or whatever nomenclature you prefer. You won’t be disappointed, I assure you. “Colonel Reece Cutteridge spotted the woman the instant he turned onto the lane. He informed his comrades he’d handle the situation. But just how, he didn’t quite know yet. The blazing animosity reflected in her evergreen eyes indicated she wasn’t open to hospitality. The rifle in her hands underscored that fact. Of the many plantations he’d commandeered since the beginning of the war, most were deserted or housed civilians cowering within.” Ms. Nord has a command of the language of the day, just as Colonel Cutteridge had command of his troops. She knows the history of the period. She writes an engrossing story of love between enemies, as opposed to fighting brother against brother. Born in Arizona to a family of educators, Cindy Nord moved from the southwestern desert to southwestern Indiana during her teenage years. After the birth of her two sons, she became a stay-at-home mom. At this point, she decided to try writing an historical romance with her own special twist. The result, No Greater Glory. I recommend this debut novel to those who love romance and historical fiction. I has both in abundance. She is a veteran of Civil War reenacting that started for her when she met her husband, Tom. From what I know about Civil War Reenactments, the research is thorough and the actual reenactment is true to the era. This, I believe, is what makes No Greater Glory so well written. A member of numerous writers groups, Cindy’s work has finaled or won countless times in chapter competitions, including the prestigious Romance Writers of America National Golden Heart Contest.

Captivating and riveting from the beginning, Ms. Nord completely out did herself with this engaging novel of second chance love between Reece Cutteridge and Emaline McDaniels. The characters and setting came alive and were so artistically portrayed that I felt like I was actually right there living among them. Consequently, I am anxious to begin the next book in this series. I am confident Ms. Nord will not disappoint her readers. I certainly hope there will be more of Reece and his lovely Emaline, as the story of Jackson and Callie unfolds.

I really liked this book. Great character development and outstanding description of the people and everyday life. You can tell Ms Nord did the required research to really bring this story to life. I also noticed she did the set up for her next novel. I guess we will find out how Col Cutterridges "sidekick" Jackson does with his sister Callie in Arizona. Ms Nord has just made my "notify me of new publications" app. Good job Cindy!

I loved the historical detail woven throughout the story in a way that never felt like a history lesson yet gave you a clear picture of what life was like on a Southern plantation or in an army camp during the Civil War. Emmaline and Reece have found each other at exactly the wrong moment. She is a widow struggling to hold on to the plantation that meant much more to her late husband than she ever did. She has no hope for love in her life. She just wants to live the rest of her life in peace. Reece is a Union army officer trying to get himself and his men through the war in one piece. He's trying to forget the tragic death of his wife, and he certainly doesn't want to let another woman into his heart. To have found each other and to feel the kindling of love in these circumstances is amazing to them both. Unfortunately, the war doesn't allow much time for romance. Emmy and Reece both have to do what they think is best to get through the war. Can they survive without each other? This was a great book, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest in the series. I'd recommend it for anyone interested in the Civil War and anyone who is a fan of historical romance.

Cindy Nord has written a beautiful love story set during the Civil War. Emaline McDaniels owns a plantation in Virginia that is confiscated by a battalion of Union soldiers. Colonel Reece Cutteridge is in charge of the 6th Ohio Regiment and takes possession of Emaline's property during a break in the war. For everything he takes, he issues her vouchers for repayment. During the weeks that they spend together, the sparks fly and the battle between their differences ignite passionate responses that grows. Although they are from different sides in the war they grow closer and love blooms. This is story is extremely well written and includes many accurate historical facts.

This story centers around the civil war. A story of courage and love during a time of war and tragedy. This story was extremely well written. There were few editing errors and the style of writing was of a much higher quality than what is generally found in current books. The storyline was well developed and devoid of those agonizing lags where it reads like the author was simply writing filler to  lengthen the story. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading Jackson's story.

This wonderful Civil War romance will have you turning the pages deep into the night. Widowed plantation owner Emaline McDaniels must contend with the sudden appearance of a bevy of Union soldiers determined to use her property as a stop as they move south. Colonel Reece Cutteridge--commanding and resolute--finds himself falling under Emaline's spell despite every effort otherwise. Against the backdrop of heartbreaking atrocities, they come together in a blaze of passion and need. Ms. Nord handles the details of the time period with ease, but it's the tension and love between Emaline and Reece that will leave the most lasting impression. I really enjoyed 'No Greater Glory'!

Emotionally powerful 6 stars I have just finished reading the first book of Cindy Nord NO GREATER GLORY and I am still amazed and filled with emotions after reading her novel. It’s a love story with complex and engaging characters. This is a story filled with strong emotions because the words are very well written. It’s so touching that I even dropped some tears, which I generally don’t often do when reading. It’s a beautiful romance, evocative and emotionally rich with her characters. I enjoyed discovering, the story of the events, that happened in the American South during the Civil War and the fact that Ms. Nord, created a love story with beautiful characters. You will fall in love with Reece and Emaline! What happens when the heroine Emaline falls in love with the hero Reece, the enemy? I am sure that some people really lived a similar story during the war. Ms. Nord is a very talented storyteller and I hope she writes another novel. I really appreciated the research done to explain the devastating effects of war during that period. I shed some tears when Emaline read Reece’s letter. If you love a novel filled with high and strong emotions, then the story of Emaline and Reece is perfect for you. I highly recommend it. I gave an extra star, because this novel really touched me!

I loved this book! Such a great read! It is rather hard to find a good (and accurate) Historical Romance that takes place during the Civil War. The facts were accurate, the love story was wonderful, and this woman, Emaline, is so strong! I can only hope that I have her strength! Amazing book!
