No Place Like Home: A Novel
One thing growing up in foster care has taught me is that everybody lies.
Your parents lie. They're supposed to love you, but they don't. Even though that's not technically a lie, it may as well be.
Your foster families lie, especially foster brothers.
And even though you sort of understand her reasons, your social worker lies.
Your friends don't lie because you don't have any.
And then there's Jake. Somehow, he seems to get you and get to you. You forget about all the pain of the past and just let go. He's the sweet in a world full of sour. He's the light in a world full of dark. He's the whole to your broken.
...and he may just be the biggest liar of them all.
