No Such Thing As a Lost Cause: A Brandy Alexander Mystery by Shelly Fredman

When rookie cop, Dave Wolinski is shot during a routine traffic stop, Brandy (who's along for the ride) finds herself face to face with the shooter; drug-crazed, pit bull fighting, gang member, Mario Lewis. Brandy shoots Lewis in self defense and becomes the target of gang retaliation. Things heat up when Lewis, who appeared to be recovering from the wound inflicted by Brandy, suddenly, and mysteriously dies. Brandy has no sympathy for the dog abuser, but figures if she can clear her name, maybe the gang will back off. Soon, Brandy is thrust into a world of dog fighting, gang atrocities and a particularly sadistic gentleman named "Torch" whose favorite pastime is setting people on fire.

Brandy has the love and support of her newly acquired boyfriend, sexy, mystery man, Nicholas Santiago to help her survive her investigation. Unfortunately, the road to true love has hit a few speed bumps, and their future together is anything but certain. Meanwhile, Brandy's ex-boyfriend Bobby DiCarlo doesn't have the same romantic woes as she does and appears to be moving on with his love life. Thankfully, Brandy, as always, has friends and family who have her back as much as she has theirs, and Brandy is one tough cookie with no plans of crumbling.

About the Author

Shelly Fredman is a native Philadelphian who long dreamed to be Mrs. Illya Kuryakin from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Having failed to reach that lofty goal, she switched her affections to fictional characters and situations that she could control with the stroke of her keyboard. This quest for power resulted in The No Such Thing As...Brandy Alexander Mysteries.

Shelly and Brandy share feelings of pride in their hometown, and even though Shelly has moved to the west coast, she has always been, and forever will be, a Philly girl at heart.

Shelly did it again. Another that I couldn't put down till the end and didn't want to then. Brandy and Nick...oh yeah! Bobby finds another. Great characters, action, mystery and humor. Brandy sure gets herself into some dangerous situations by helping and caring for others

This is by far my favorite series and this latest book is wonderful. I love that through each book Brandy grows and changes yet is always true to herself. I both laughed and cried with this book and already am reading it again. You will too!

I read No Such Thing as a Lost Cause over three days as I wanted to savor the story!! Having read the previous 4 books I didn't want to rush since I know the next book will be a while in the making. The adult relationship between Brandy and Nick is just the right mix of tension and romance to keep you hooked. It is wonderful the book deals with a serious subject offset by some really hilarious situations. Kudos to Shelly Fredman and I hope she continues dreaming up new adventures.

Amazing read! Miss Shelly has an amazing ability to tie in an intense plot line with just the amount of humor romance and seriousness! Definitely worth the sleepless night to read it! :)

I can NOT tell you how much I have enjoyed this series! I would suggest you read them in order. They would be good as a stand alone story but it is more enjoyable to "know" the people in the story and Shelly Fredman makes sure we know not only our "hero" Brandy Alexander, but her friends, her family and even makes you feel like you meet the bad guys when SHE does. I laughed out loud MANY times in this book AND the previous ones in the series but I also shed a few tears. I PRAY Ms. Fredman continues this series into the double digits at LEAST!! It is SUCH a joy to ride along on a Brandy Alexander adventure! I only wish I was JUST starting the series!

I have fallen in love with Brandy & Shelly Fredman's "No Such Thing" series. Her newest release; "No Such Thing As A Lost Cause" is wonderful! It has the Brandy's great sense of humor & the sparks are still flying between Brandy & Nick. You will love it & won't want to put it down. Shelly has moved to the top of my favorite author's list!

The latest installment in the Brandy Alexander series was wonderful. Shelly did a beautiful job on touching on such a hard topic, and Brandy handled it so well. She showed a great emotional turmoil for someone who was starting out in a new relationship. Given that Nick is a wonderful man of mystery (and I'm soooo on Team Nick here) it's understandable for Brandy to be uncertain a lot of the time, especially given the long time relationship she had with Bobby.  Once again, Shelly has captured my attention and has me wanting more! :-) Fabulous job!

Fresh adventures and a new crusade for Philly's favorite fluff reporter. Brandy champions the less fortunate and those who cannot speak for themselves as a lifestyle. I really didn't think this series could get any better but it has. The subject matter may be disturbing to many readers, try to push past it and enjoy the ride.

What a great book.  I have read all five books in this series and am enjoying seeing how Brandy keeps fighting for what she feels is right.  We need to have more strong women like Brandy to follow.

Another outstanding entry in the Brandy Alexander books. Despite the serious topic, Shelly Fredman once again brings belly laughs through the thoughts and antics of Brandy and her friends. The fall out from an ill-fated ride-along weighs heavily on Brandy as she deals with her relationship with Nick as well as accepting Bobby's new girl and winning over Johnny's new guy. The terrible world of dog fighting haunts her, and in typical Brandy fashion she feels compelled to step up. An encounter with that world leads her into even more danger and more complications. All of our regular friends are back offering her support. You have to love these guys. This books has the usual humor but there is also a feeling that these guys are growing up, even Brandy. If you are a fan of Brandy and her friends you will love this book. If you are new to her world, hold on and get ready for a wild ride.

Hands down my favorite series. Each book has suspense, humor, a little romance, and mystery. Fantastic plot and characters you feel you know. Can not wait for book 6. If you like Janet Evanovich, you will love Shelly Fredman.

Chick-Lit with a bite! I'm new to the Brandy Alexander series and now have some serious catching up to do. First of all, I couldn't have pulled off the combo of the dark and dangerous world of dog fighting with the humor, romance and sweetness that was wrapped throughout this read. Kudos to author Shelly Fredman to accomplish this in such a skilled way. A very entertaining read.I know a lot of readers are talking about Brandy's romance interests -- you know who you are Team Nick or Team Bobby -- but I've got to tell you the subplot that had me in stitches was the John - Garrett adventures.  I don't think this is a spoiler - but the way this book ended had me cheering. Way to go talented author! Keep 'em coming!
