Overview

No Surrender: A World War II Memoir by James J. Sheeran

The Nazis caught him, but they couldn't hold him-a gripping WWII memoir from a D-Day paratrooper and American hero.

A paratrooper in the 101st Airborne, James Sheeran was just a kid when he floated into Normandy on D-Day-only to be captured soon afterward by the Germans. Escaping from a POW train bound for Germany, Sheeran traveled behind enemy lines in France, eventually fighting alongside the French Resistance.

After hooking up with Patton's advancing army, he fought admirably in Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge, and was ultimately awarded the Bronze Star, a Purple Heart, and the Chevalier of the Order of the Legion of Honor.

Sheeran's breathtaking chronicle of his capture, daring escape, fierce guerilla resistance, and valor under fire is an unforgettable testament to the spirit of the American soldier.

I like WWII books and other war books written in the first person, about the actual events that happened to them. This is one of those books. James Sheeran tells his story about jumping over Normandy on D-day, being captured by the Germans, escaping the POW camp and re-entering the war to fight the Germans again in the Battle of the Bulge at Bastonge, Belgium and Foy. Sheerans journey follows many of the same battles as the iconic book and movies series "Band of Brothers", but the story told in this book is nothing like the "Band of Brothers" story. In closing, a unique, courageous, and historical journey that any one who enjoys history would enjoy. I would highly recommend this book.

Since I was a member of 101, I've always wondered about their history in WW 11, now I know. This is a must read book, for people who want to know about our service men and women, and how they thought and what America meant to them. If you read it you"ll know.

Jimmy and Bernie, against all odds, escape their captors and rejoin their unit to fight in the Battle of the Buldge. This was a great read.

Bravery, amidst dark hours of uncertainty kept me turning the pages. Jimmy had much to overcome and the bravery to share his most personal memoirs with us. A must read for those who enjoy nonfiction WWII events that changed lives forever.

I continue to be enthralled and touch by the heroes of WW II and the sheer guts that they had to reach down when they needed so badly or die. They truly had no surrender in them.
