No Test for the Wicked: A Lexi Carmichael Mystery, Book Five by Julie Moffett

A geek’s worst nightmare: going back to high school

Returning to high school is not something I ever wanted to do over—it was awful the first time around. So why do I have to go back as part of a new undercover assignment? Because the universe loves playing jokes on me, obviously.

I’ve been ordered to go all 21 Jump Street and track down the students who are breaking into the computer system, changing grades, and causing all kinds of havoc. Although I’m not thrilled about my new gig, at least it gives me something to do other than worry over the fact that I now have a boyfriend. And no freaking idea what to get him for Christmas.

Or it did give me something else to worry about, until I stumbled across a more sinister threat. I was shocked to find distinct traces of a group of international hackers inside the network. What exactly have I gotten myself into?

The Best Yet! Number 5 in the series shows the protagonist developing her social skills and learning about relationships, both romantic and platonic. This series strongest point lies in entertainment value. The books are enjoyable, humorous, easy to read, and a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon.

Just as our geek girl Lexi is growing up and has a real relationship, back to high school she goes. She makes new friends and sees herslf in several of the students. She is still new at having a real boyfriend and it is great to see her learn about dating and develop her friendships, even when she doesn't see she has more than just one person who wants to share her life.

Another winner! This is one of my favorite series. I love how Lexi is smart and doesn't pretend to be anything less than she is. In this book, Lexi goes undercover at an exclusive high school in the DC area. A group of kids, the WOMBATs (LOVE the name), are creating havoc in the computer system and the school hires Lexi's company to solve the problem. Unfortunately for Lexi, trouble seems to follow her. While she is undercover, the school is attacked by terrorists. Lexi has to find a way to survive and try to stop them. Lexi is complicated and smart, as are most of the characters in the series. It is very refreshing to have a heroine and other characters that are brilliant. This is a great mystery/chick lit. It has plenty of humor, especially as Lexi pushes her social boundaries at strives to understand how to be a girlfriend to Slash. I started this book late in the day and stayed up late to finish it - it was just that good that I couldn't put it down. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
