Overview

Nobody Knows (KEY News Series #5) by Mary Jane Clark

Cassie Sheridan has all a television news reporter could want: an important beat in Washington D.C., a skyrocketing career, and a talent that everyone acknowledges. But then, she makes a critical mistake. Suddenly, her career is in shambles, her credibility is questioned, and her teenaged daughter makes her realize just how much time she hasn't spent with her. The repercussions of ambitious reporting have now derailed the career of KEY News justice correspondent Cassie Sheridan.

Cassie is transferred to Miami, to wait out the end of her contract-separated from her family, her friends, and the familiarity of Washington. But in an unsuspecting south Florida town, a killer is watching...and waiting.

While covering a hurricane that's moving up Florida's west coast, Cassie meets 11-year-old Vincent, who has just made a grisly discovery on the beach. In one week, Cassie traces the connection between Vincent's newfound "treasure" and a secret operation in the dark shadows of sunny Sarasota-a story that has national significance and maybe, just maybe, will win back her reputation. But nobody knows how fierce the coming storm will be. Nobody knows how far a psychopath will go in pursuit of twisted pleasure. Nobody knows if a young woman's murderer will stop at nothing to keep the crimes a secret. And nobody knows if Cassie will get out alive. . . .

I bought this book to read over the summer while I was vacationing in Florida because I like to read books that take place where I am traveling to. I could not get interested in it at first because it started off so slow and just packed it away for a few months. I just started reading the book again to try to give it another chance and it got to be a page turner after the first few chapters! I wanted to hear more about Vincent, the boy using his metal detector searching the beach and coming across something that would change everyones lives, his little brother that had cystic fibrosis and his hard working single mother, more about Miami for sure, the locals & resturants. This all makes for a more descriptive type of story line that I look for. I like to feel like I can actually feel, smell and sympathize with the charactors. It is one of those books that you wished there was a next book with all the charactors in the same place. I will keep looking for a book written by Mary Jane Clark about Cassie Sheridan in Miami.

I was disappointed. The main character had no personality. I didn't care about her. The plot was okay, I guess, but I'm into characters with some depth.

A real page turner. First time I have read any of her books and I couldn't put it down. Definitely am going to try to read more of her books. I also like that is was a quick and easy read and kept you guessing until the very end.

This is the 1st book by Mary Jane Clark that I have read, i guess i will try to see if she has any other good books - this one is not! There is no character in this book that I cared about at all (well, maybe Mark because he was so sickly). And when it was done, I just said, 'So What'?

Washington correspondent Cassie Sheridan is on her way to the top with an evening New York based show on the horizon until her career derails. Cassie reported that a serial rapist raped the daughter of the FBI Director. The teenage girl already struggling to cope kills herself when Cassie reveals her exclusive on national TV. Her station exiles Cassie to the Miami Bureau until her contract ends and her career with it.

Her husband and daughter sick of her ambition refuse to talk to her adding to her feelings of isolation. Now she is reporting on a coming hurricane when preadolescent Vincent Baylor finds a human hand with a ring on it on the beach. Vincent takes the ring with plans to pawn it knowing his desperate family could use the cash. However, the killer needs that ring and will murder to obtain it. Cassie and Vincent team up in an attempt to identify the culprit, but neither realize they are in the eye of a murderous human hurricane.

NOBODY KNOWS is fast-paced and gripping as the suspense builds up while readers wonder if Cassie will overstep her bounds again and what the killer will do. The crisp story line will grab the audience in spite of the Ferris Bueller-like pontificating. The support cast is somewhat stereotyped but likable as the families of Vincent and Cassie are used to evoke emotion from fans and to provide further insight into the lead characters. Though Mary Jane Clark has written a fine novel, the bottom line is Cassie is not likable and this is her tale.
