Batten down the hatches and make firm the ties, The Nocturna is under attack by something from below!
When Colette experiences strange dreams, her friend Grancis connects it to a recent incident of a disappearing sailor. Colette’s taken in her sleep to the vessel’s doctor Estradia, a half quack, half electric eel surgeon and shares a dream with Grancis, under the pretense that it will solve the problem.
Colette wakes up in confusion to find an exact copy of herself aiming to hunt her down. With The Captain no where in sight and the crew asleep, it falls to her to turn Grancis around, make her see the light, and take down the eldritch assassin parasite... thing. If she fails, the parasite will take her place, and no one will no the secret danger surrounding the crew. The fate of The Nocturna and its dozens of lives are in Colette’s hands, and she’ll stop at nothing to clear herself of any suspicion and save the crew!
Watch your shoulders and tread lightly, The Eversea awaits you!

Reviewed by Janelle Fila for Readers' Favorite Nocturna League (Episode 1: The Witching Book) by Kell Inkston is a young adult adventure story that takes place on a ship. The M.S. Nocturna is searching for hidden treasure and artifacts proving witchcraft, specifically a witch's book that grants wishes. The ship's crew is filled with interesting characters like Colette, the sharp tongued greenhorn who dreams of captaining her own ship; Dunklestein, a half-man/half shark; and Jim, who has a terribly nasty tattoo on his arm that might explain his odd relationship with the captain. The crew and the captain journey on an incredible adventure full of mystery, magic, and mayhem that any young reader will enjoy. Readers will love the traditional pirate characters - a fearless captain, a crew of scallywags - and magical sea creatures and villains that include a dangerous witch. Young readers will appreciate the humor and satire within this book. Readers will love the captain's irony and Colette's grim determination. They will enjoy going on an expedition with this misfit crew and feel like they are part of the grand adventure, as if they are sailing to mystical, magical islands themselves. This is an easy story to get swept up and lost in, even though there are only a few pages. If anything, I wished this story was longer so I could spend more time with these remarkably hilarious characters, and I think other readers will agree that more adventure is a grand idea.
