Nolan finally had a practice of his own, and soon his brother Burke would be leaving the hospital and joining him. Now, if the rest of the family would mind their own business, Nolan would be much happier...or not. He was sulking over his dilemma when his nurse told him he had a patient, a hurt kid who wasn't doing much talking.

Rylee nearly collapsed with worry when she found out her nephew had been hurt. She wasn't sure if she was cut out to be a parent. She loved her nephew, Shane, dearly and had taken on his care when her sister died, but how she'd missed the warning signs was beyond her. He was being bullied at school daily and she knew nothing about it until he'd been cut with a knife.

"I didn't know." Her entire body sagged at her confession. "He said he had it handled. And I thought he did. It's my fault he's beaten up like this. I should have...I'm not any good at this parenting thing."

Nolan reached for her just as Shane moved on the bed. He wasn't sure what the kid could do, banged up the way that he was, but as soon as Nolan touched her, he knew what she was to him. Her body, warm and strong, leaned into his even as he buried his nose into her neck. Christ, his body screamed at him, she was his. Licking her throat, tasting her, he could hear her moan, but when his head was jerked up by his hair, all he could do was stare at her.

Nolan Bentley is a great doctor, he has his own practice and is working on competing his dream of a place for the underprivileged to get the help they need. He is also lost, depressed and seriously in need of an intervention. Rylee is struggling to raise her nephew after her sister dies, army life was so much easier and something she was good at. Meeting Nolan adds another complication to Rylee's already complicated life but to Nolan meeting Rylee is just what he needs. I really enjoyed these two characters, Nolan needs a good kick in the butt for the way he is acting and Rylee has no problem giving it to him. Rylee on the other hand doesn't act like she was a Army officer who had grown men shaking in their boots until Shane is threatened and the real Rylee takes over. My god , that was one of the most funny things I have read. I think it surprised me as much as the character it happened too. Again a great storyline with an underlying message, great characters, funny happenings and a house with great magic. I really want one of these houses, they are so cool. I enjoyed reading about Nolan and Rylee and will be glad to see how things have progressed when the next book in this series comes out

One thing I really love about all of Kathi's books is the capacity of love the characters have for each other. This book was no different. Rylee has no idea what to do with kids. All she knows is the Army life, but that doesn't prevent her from coming in and taking care of her nephew when her sister dies. Now her and Shane are learning how to live with each other as well as keep their head's up when they financially struggle to live day to day. Nolan's family will take care of anyone they believe are theirs. When Nolan discovers Rylee is his mate after treating her nephew, they take both of these lost souls under their care and provide them with a safe place and the love they both seem to need. Nolan also has to come to terms with his family coming into his project to help and not takeover as he seems to believe they will. Unlike other Kathi books, this one didn't have one definite bad guy throughout the story, but a few which made it all the more fun to see how this new family dealt with the problems.

The writing was poor, stilted and boring. There was not enough editing done. The reactiin of the characters did not make sense. I could not even finish. I kept trying and got to page 126 of the 152. This was a waste of money

Nolan Bentley is a struggling Doctor and a panther and doesn't want to admit to his brothers that he is in over his head with trying to build a homeless shelter - he doesn't want his brothers to come in and just take over. Rylee is in the Army and leaves to take care of her sister who is dying from Cancer and her nephew. She feels that she is letting her nephew down after her sister dies in every way - emotionally - financially - physically - in everything possible. Then when Shane gets hurt and she meets Nolan she doesn't know what is happening to her as her feelings are all crazy for him. Definitely a must read to find out how they come together and take care of everything.
