My brothers and sisters, think of the various tests you encounter as occasions for joy. After all, you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
(James 1: 2-3)
Jack and Carol MacCleary accepted their new life and employment on Saint Raphael's island, along with the island's many secrets. The MacCleary's have the perfect life on the island. Jack is the Lineman, and Carol, now Professor MacCleary, teaches culinary and healing at Saint Raphael's boarding school. The couple have two children: eleven-year-old daughter Mem, and an eight-year-old son, Johnny.
Mem is about to attend Saint Raphael's boarding school, as do all eleven-year-olds. Mem begins her first year, or Noobie year, with her best friend Jamie Calvin. Other-world children attend the island school, only by special invitation. The ancient monastic school is taught by the Brothers and Sisters of Saint Raphael's.
This non-traditional school has rules, and as headmistress, Mother Nicodemus ensures these rules are followed. No cursing, swearing, lying, cheating, stealing, gossiping, bullying, or breaking curfew, are but a few rules to obey. There are unconventional consequences for those who refuse.
The school and staff are not quite as they seem, as Noobies soon learn and begin their first class, scavenger hunting. They must work together to solve clues in order to find their next class.
Can Noobies, or first years resist the bullying? Can other-world students adapt to the strange and unusual island beliefs? Can Mem and her mates uncover the islands secrets before it's too late? Will all Noobies succeed in their first year?
