BAD cord, bad design — We customers deserve better than the brush-off given by B&N re: this bad cord. 3 Strikes: • bad manufacturing of the cord • bad design in the location of the recharging plug • bad exchange/replacement policy I'm thinking it's time for a class-action lawsuit.

Over 2 years later love Nook Color hate power cord. I am now needing my 3rd one. I bought the extended war which expired. I called the 800 number and was told that I had to buy one. You would that if 90% of your customers have a problem you would replace the cord free .I will be visiting the store and hopefully all will be good. Love the Nook free cords for everyone!!!! .

Don't buy another charging cord. I found out by accident that you can just use the PC to Nook cable. It won't tell you it's charging but it is. After about 5 hours, my nook color went from 13% to 85% powered up. You don't have to buy the same crappy charging cable!

Ditto with everyone else. I'm on second charger and Nook end is held together with tape. Very poor quality for an otherwise outstanding product.

can you rate "no stars" ?? we have 3 nook color (owned for about 3 years) and we've gone through 12 chargers combined - they break easily at the plug in point , the casing cracks, and just plain stop working ...grrrr .... Obviously, they make their $$$ on the charger cords

I purchased and registered my Nook Tablet on April 26, 2013. My power cord just went bad, December 15, 2013. Customer service said they would have replaced the cord except that my Nook is no longer under warranty. They say my warranty started on June 22, 2012, ten months before I purchase the device, and ended on June 21, 2013. How can that be? I've never heard of a warranty started before the purchase. The registration information shows up in their system in my account information, it includes the serial number and the registration date for the device. Why make a claim like that just to avoid providing a $10 replacement power cord? There is something seriously wrong with that.

I love my Nook Color, and hate this cord. I received my Nook for Christmas in 2011 & have literally lost count  of how many cords I have gone through. I know it is the  design & poor placement on my Nook because it is always in a cover & the Nook itself looks almost brand new despite a bunch of use (I am a college student). Most recently the "n" started glowing red when plugged in; after on line searching I am finding this most likely means the cord is defective...again! Please, Barnes & Noble, resolve this matter; all love/hate relationships have their limits.

My view of the nook charger cable. This week I will set out to buy my fifth or sixth  USB charger cable for the nook I adore. I have lost count of the number of times I have had to replace the cable. One of them just stopped working, one of them had the metal piece inserted into the nook break off, and 2 or 3 of them the plastic casing with the nook logo has become detached  from the cable. My first replacement was free but all the others I have had to pay for. I got my nook as a birth day present (April) in 2011 so it seems, for me at least, the cables last an average of 5 five months. with my latest charger I even took precautions to prolong its life by putting duct tape around were the cable and the plastic casing connect which did seem to extend the life by maybe a month.  About a month before this charger died how ever the light of the nook logo became red all the time unless plugged in to the nook whilst it turned orange. The light would even stay red when not plugged in to the wall which I found interesting. I was glad to find a pone the purchase of my second replacement charger that you could by just the cable, good job b&n. I'm looking into being able to obtain my sixth or seventh charger free because I am tired of having to spend my money on things  that I feel is a design defect and that a company should fix themselves. I would rather spend my money on more ebooks.

I have my nook less than two years and the small piece of the charger that connects to the tablet is broke.  I am concerned about buying a replacement that has 965 bad reviews!

Can't stand my nook color I'm so done with this. I'm on my 3rd charger and it broke in under 3 MONTHS and I didn't do anything to it, it just popped out of the socket when I unplugged it from my Nook. I can't believe how disappointed I am with my nook. I got it like when it was still new, three months later the tablet came out, then all of these new HD+ and all these new fancy ones, and now they DON"T SELL THEM IN STORES ANYWHERE!! And i need my charger be cause Nooks can't use a universal charger it has to be a Nook Charger, and I'm so disappointed I love Barnes and NOble but they forgot all of the people who owned Nook Colors, and it seems as if the Nook Color isn't being used anymore, and it took me 30 minutes to find this page because the only nook products popped up  were the new nooks and i'm really aggravated now,, I'm just really disappointed with all of this....

Cheap piece of crap. Have replaced this for my two Nooks at least a half dozen times. Customer Service says this: Susan, NOOK charging cable are very delicate. It is suggesteble to use them smoothly. I suggest you to not to use your NOOK while is connected to charging. I can tell you, it won't matter how you use it, because this piece of garbage will break anyhow. Barnes and Noble KNOWS this is an issue and cares so little about their consumer base that they refuse to fix the problem. They should be replacing these for free, as it is a HUGE design flaw.

I've had my Nook Color for over two years and am having to order my 5th replacement cable. At this point I could have bought a new tablet. The cable is proprietary and poorly designed. I like that light up feature and the fast charge but this is ridiculous!

they break very easily kind of disappointing

This is the second time I will need to change my nook charger, I have tried using different charger but it wouldn't work. Barnes and Noble need to do something urgently about nook chargers, I can't believe I'm changing my charger twice within six month.

I haven't had a problemwith the cord yet, but i can see where problems could occur. The only thing that is intolerable is where you plug it in at. Seriously, barnes and noble, you need to change that completely. On the botttom? Really? What genius came up with that? And to top it off, you payed for the idea.

Well I'm sad to join the countless others in saying my little piece that connects to the NOOK broke after having it for  two years. I use my nook a lot and so does my son to play his kids apps.

For those of you still needing a charging cable for your Color Nook - I found a cable that will work!! Save the electric plug adapter, if you still have it. I found a cord at CVS pharmacy for $5.99 . POWERXCEL MICRO USB TO USB SYNC & CHARGE CABLE. The USB portion is 2.0. The micro USB end is long enough to engage with the Nook. The one I purchased is lime green in color. I'm thinking with this particular manufacturer the charge cables are color-coded with different sizes. Good luck!!

I love my NOOK tablet! I've had it for two years and had no problems with it. I had no problems getting a replacement charging cable today. No questions asked and not charged for it. Although it depends on knowledgeable customer service, one person told me I could get the cable if I bought the car charging kit and other sales associate got the cable and handed it to me.

I have had my nook for there years and I am just buying my first replacement cord (and I am 11) so every body needs to be more carful with your cords. <3 every one

Use electrical tape (appropriate for task and sturdy). That's what I did. 1 star for the original cord. I have no faith that a new cord will make any difference. Cannot rate the replacement cord because I refuse to buy another standard cord. I don't plan to buy a car charger either. That said, my nook (color) is one of the best purchases I have made! If someone demanded my phone or my nook. They could have my phone. I do wish that some improvements/concessions would be made by Barnes & Noble to benefit current nook owners. AS FOR THE REVIEWER, STATING THAT THOSE EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS HAVE FAILED - foolishness. There was no warning when I purchased my nook color that I had to handle the cord with kid gloves. Poor workmanship is what we are dealing with, plain and simple. Don't blame the victim. A class action lawsuit is NOT OUTSIDE the realm of reality. Good customer service by the seller would also work. It is all about money. Each of us should be offered a high quality (TRULY NEW & IMPROVED would be great) replacement cord FREE OF CHARGE. Better yet, Barnes & Noble should put their money where their mouth is and give us a 3 yr warranty on the cord. That way when/if the cord fails, we get a no questions asked replacement cord, essentially for life, barring abuse of the cord by the consumer.

I received this redesigned cable when I had to purchase yet another cable because of the metal tip getting bent. This redesign seems to have corrected the issue. The larger plastic casing makes it difficult to charge a nook in a case, but since we generally charge our devices overnight--we can get over that. Kudos to the Nook team for improving this product even though the Nook Color/Tablet are no longer being made. Thank you!
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
The redesign was well thought out and should solve the previous cable problems. By the way, any heavy device that charges with a micro USB has identical cable issues. It's not unique to the NOOK.

I have ordered many chargers for my nook tablet in the 2 years I've hade one. The one pictured for this item actually isn't the one they make anymore. I ordered another charger and received it today. its nothing like the one before. It no longer has a light indicator, which is a bummer, but the new design is great. Instead of the cable coming straight out of the bottom, it goes to the side, and has a solid plastic cover over the part the goes in the tablet. That makes it WAY more secure. My tablet was dead, when I plugged in it and it finally turned on, it was already at 12%. After about 5 more minutes it was at 25%. So it is charging super fast. The old design I would have given it 1 star, but the new design is amazing!
