Two friends, Dryados and Talmun, are sent by the apostle John to deliver a simple letter to Gaius in Pergama. When they stop in Smyrna, a friend is butchered on the street for refusing to put a pinch of incense on a pagan altar. Fleeing to Pergama, the two friends must fight to survive in a city filled with strange traditions and practices. Even the architecture of the beautiful Acropolis points to a foreboding presence. As they begin to decipher the mysteries of the city's Great Altar, they are thrown into the invisible world around them and the eternal battle the Great Powers wage there.
As Dryados and Talmun expand their business, nurture young love, and grow in their faith, it's not just the merciless Romans they must fear, for a timeless enemy has now taken notice of them. Are love and faith enough in the face of an undying evil? And what can it mean for the people of today and those to come?
