Leelu, thirteenth daughter of the Fairy Queen is dying. She was cursed and her mother, not wanting to give up the throne, has decided it is time for Leelu to move on - permanently. Leelu is somewhat okay with that after living for five thousand years and being aware of her eventual demise BUT there is this guy who suddenly sprouted black wings that is totally against the idea of her dying and he, Nathaniel the Warlock, is going to do everything in his power to keep Leelu alive. With the two in the fairy kingdom trying to figure out what to do to keep Leelu alive they are visited by some dragons, a werewolf who can’t shift and others. They eventually seek assistance from some trolls and might have come up with a solution…maybe…when they are off to confront the queen. More of the history of the fairies is presented and the coming together of various paranormal entities to fight a threat and seat a new king on the fairy throne happens as does the visit of a supreme being who puts a few things right. This is a fun lighthearted read in spite of death looming. It also makes me think that perhaps Moona, the shifter who can’t shift, might end up being in the third book of this series. Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I’ve been reading the Jezibaba books and now the Jezibaba Saga ones but rest assured Not Fairy Common is a standalone. I did thoroughly enjoy reading about previous characters and how they interact in this story, though, so I was glad I’ve read the others before it. NFC is about Nathaniel and Leelu. I’ve always thought of Nathaniel as the wonderfully faithful (let’s say a) Majordomo, but in a Wizard/Dragon/Dragon-Witch sorta way to the former Jezibaba, now Elenora the Dragon-Witch. In this story, he simultaneously cracks me up, makes me wanna smack him upside the head, hug him, shake him, and then hug him again. He really is such a boy sometimes, but he truly has a heart of gold. And other things that are part of the story so I won’t give any spoilers. Leelu is a purple fairy who has been cursed, by her own mother, and Elenora and Nathaniel are doing everything within their power to break the curse. Leelu and Nathaniel have a history – not a very happy one – so a lot of their time is spent snarkily sniping at one another. No worries, it really is a mating dance of sorts and is always funny and warm and oftentimes downright hilarious. Their journey to work out their differences is a wild ride and I thoroughly enjoyed it! We get to meet more of Leelu’s family and friends and most will touch your heart. Others? Yeah, you’ll be chanting a spell of your own to make them pay, trust me. I loved this story, it was a quick read for me, and can’t wait to find out what’s next with the Jezibaba crew!
