Reviewed by Vernita Naylor for Readers' Favorite Do you love laughing? Well, enjoy reading over fifty poems and sketches in Not Gonna Write Poems: A Poetry Book for All the Non Poets by Michael A. Lee. This is a great way to begin the laughter. In this book you will see poems that are inspired by Shel Silverstein. In reading these poems you will see several funny quirky stories. Each poem will awaken your imagination as you not only read them and see the illustrations depicting the poem, but trying to get into the head of the author behind the inspiration of the poem can be fun as well. As you read, embrace and visualize the poem and illustrations, you will smile. Each poem has its own unique personality, not only because of the story being represented but in the changes in the font styles as each poem is presented to the reader. I enjoyed this collection of poetry because Michael was inspired by the work of Shel Silverstein and I love and enjoy Silverstein's work. This book represents a family affair with the help of the author's daughter, Jessica, in creating some of the illustrations. Since Shel died in 1999, and Michael and his family were unable to meet Shel, he decided to pay tribute to Shel's work. “It was with this idea in mind that I embarked on my yearlong endeavor to make this book,” says Michael. There were so many favorites that I enjoyed, like The Gaitor Waiter, The Tortoise and the Hare (The Alternative Story) and Pain in the Butt. Once you get a copy of this book, you too will choose a few poem favorites of your own. Enjoy and happy reading!
