Not in My Job Description by Amber Lynn

Avery Clavens is an average, somewhat socially awkward woman who works as a research assistant in a New York library. At least that's what everyone who knows her believes. In actuality, Avery was caught doing something wrong in her youth by a secret government agency, and when faced with either jail time or being recruited by the agency, she found orange really wasn't her color.

After seven years of nothing too exciting happening in the office, she is forced to go undercover with an agent she's pretty sure speaks the English language as interpreted by Martians. It doesn't help that she feel drawn to said agent, or that there is a weird spark anytime the two of them touch.

Can the two of them stop arguing long enough to get their man? Avery doesn't know, but dealing with Agent Barnes definitely isn't in her job description.

About the Author

I love books. Until recently, I kept to just reading them, but ideas for characters and scenes took control of my mind and made me have to get those ideas down. I have been writing for about a year and have really enjoyed working out the process of taking my ideas and forming new worlds for others to enjoy. This whole writing thing is still a hobby for me. I sit down on weeknights and weekends and just float over to my other worlds for a while. Other hobbies of mine include: drawing, baking, arts and crafts, motorcycles, hockey, and archery. I like to think I have eclectic tastes where my hobbies are concerned. I love to laugh and try to at least make myself smile once a day. With the crazy thoughts going on in my head that usually isn't hard.

I liked the lighthearted antics of Avery. This was a cute read that I would let my teen daughter read. There was no adult language or adult situations that were inappropriate. Avery is snarky but I think she has met her match with Nate. I wondered if there was something more going on due to the electricity comments which truly were not adviced, and was delighted to find that there are more books. Even more shocking, is the fact that these jewels are free! I also appreciate the closure of the book, so I do not feel as thoughI am being coerced into buying the next book. I would get the book because I enjoyed this one. I will definitely read the next story.

A fun read. Loved the chapter quotes and Avery's T-shirts. Could have done without the detailed cooking. Otherwise I highly recommend and have already started the second book.

The main character wasn't nice or likeable. Her defensive sarcasm came off as immature. At some point I was expecting some sort of revelation that would change the dynamics, but it never came.

Several times throughout the book the author goes into great detail of the main character preparing a meal & each time it's several pages long...I didn't know if l was reading a suspense novel or learning how to make cupcakes....

Not the most sophisticated of books, and I agree the cooking scenes are too long, however I enjoyed the book. I even laughed. It was fun and it looks like the next book is free too. Gotta love that!

The book was funny and interesting. The main character was someone that would be fun to hang around with. The humor and pace reminded me of the Stephanie Plum books, I am looking forward to reading more about Avery.
