Overview

This true story chronicles a mother’s journey of trials and doubts, faith and triumph, through the rocky terrain of her son’s life with Asperger syndrome, bipolar disorder, depression, and addiction. The reader has a mom’s-eye view of the challenges she and her family face as they navigate through the public school system, private rehab programs, the Texas justice system, and normal life as evangelical Christians with a child who doesn’t seem to “fit the mold” of expectation in any given system, let alone in his own mother’s idea of what her first son would be like. While frightening and painful at times, this is one mother’s story of faith and surrender in the face of insurmountable obstacles and of God’s presence and faithfulness over decades of time. This ongoing story is full of victory, but more important than any single outcome is the fruit of peace and joy that was discovered along the way as the author chose to offer up all outcomes to the only One who loves better than a mother, whose signature moves are redemption, healing, and rescue.

About the Author

Lore Cottone was born and raised in Kentucky. Although her family attended church, she was the first of her family to begin a personal relationship with Christ. When she was thirteen years old, Lore gave her life to Christ at a church camp. She attended Liberty University and pursued a masters degree in social work from the University of Kentucky. Lore enjoyed working in the field of social work before marrying the love of her life, Michael, and having children. Lore and Michael have been married twenty-five years and have four sons—Graham, Jake, Titus, and Blake.
When children came along, Lore was blessed to be able to stay at home with them for almost eighteen years. Lore then reentered the social-work field for several more years until the Lord called her out to write a book about raising her oldest son. It is Lore’s great hope that God will use their story to comfort and inspire many. Michael and Lore now live in Dripping Springs, Texas, and attend One Chapel church in Austin, Texas. Lore loves any physical activity outside and is a self-professed gym rat. Just don’t ask her to run a marathon. Fitness classes, hikes in the great outdoors, and obstacle-course races are always on the top of her list.
