I got this book from my local library to collect anecdotes for use with a presentation. I read the whole thing in one night, then passed it to my husband, who wanted to read the entire book. Then I read it again! I had to get my own copy. Great business sense, inspiring stories, and more. Marketing and communications students, as well as business students, would also benefit from this fun read.

Kevin and Jackie Freiberg began studying Southwest Airlines when Kevin was a doctoral student. This lively, funny and, at times, moving book is full of information about the origins of Southwest Airlines, what makes it unique and how it fights hard to keep its family-based culture, despite having more than 33,000 employees. Wonderful stories told by employees, letters from customers and comments from other business leaders demonstrate the principles that the authors discuss. The book is divided into four sections, with the last looking at leadership in general and as practiced at Southwest. This book was originally published in 1996, but every word of it is perfectly applicable today. Southwest Airlines is still making a profit and growing where other airlines are losing money by the planeload. We recommend this entertaining account of how to operate a service-oriented company in a cutthroat industry.

A history of the airline that 'Herb built'....from the early days of the scantily clad hostess, to the ingenious 10 minute turn around, this book is a must for any aviation enthusiast! In a whimsical fashion, this biography explaines how Kelehers (Herb Keleher - CEO Southwest Airlines) off beat managerial style, combined with wit, guts, and lots of luck, propelled Southwest Airlines to their current standing as one of the Nations most well respected commercial air carriers! 'Nuts'.....or genious, its a real toss up (would you beleive Southwest Airlines began as chicken scratch on a cocktail napkin in a bar one evening)! Overall, I give it two thumbs up and highly recomend the likes of its pages to anyone striving to find insight to success in the modern aviation industry!

Different strokes for different folks and all of America is not on board. The story is good and SW has done a fantastic job once again at turning their negative into a positive by gaining support from premadonna fad enthusiasts who are just looking for the newest band wagon to ride on. It's not about the nuts.

This book gives expert insight into how the airline that no one thought could survive its first 30 days has outlived most of its competitors. Aviation fan? Flying Southwest soon? We talked about this book in my college marketing and management classes. It was just as great as what we talked about. I have also flown Southwest Airlines on numerous occassions. The practices mentioned in the book can be seen in practice. SWA has done a great job and this book will tell you why and how they did it! I will never fly any other airline. Just remember, GO NUTS!
