O. Henry: The Fiction: Complete and Unabridged (Library of Essential Writers)

In a career that lasted little more than a decade, O. Henry wrote more than two hundred short stories that have become staples of American literature. His slice-of-life tales of ordinary men and women struggling to cope with the incongruous circumstances of life often ended with an ironic or amusing twist that became his trademark.

This literary omnibus reprints all of the short fiction published in his thirteen story collections - masterpieces that run the emotional gamut from comedy to pathos and that include "The Gift of the Magi", "The Cop and the Anthem," "Mammon and Archer," "A Retrieved Reformation," and "The Ransom of Red Chief."

O. Henry: The Fiction is part of Barnes & Noble's Library of Essential Writers. Each title in the series presents the finest works - complete and unabridged - from one of the greatest writers in literature in magnificent, elegantly designed hard-back editions. Every volume also includes an original introduction that provides the reader with enlightening information on the writer's life and works.

This edition is the one to have for no other reason than that it is COMPLETE. T here are other editions (hardcover and paperback) but for the price and the handsome binding, you can't go wrong. And about the writing, anyone who enjoys clever, entertaining stories that take less than a catnap to read will find O. Henry hard to beat...open it to any story and you will be satisfied. Hard to believe he wrote most of these tales in a decade. If you buy some of the other titles in this series, you'd have a nice shelf of classic lit to keep you busy for quite awhile.

This is the definitive O. Henry collection. It is full of every story he ever wrote, each contained within their original books. O. Henry's stories are about ordinary people and everyday situations that end with some kind of surprise or twist. 'The Furnished Room' is this writers personal favorite, but any one of the many stories can pull you in. These tales, although set long ago, contain many central themes that anyone can connect with. This edition is so affordable that these would make a great gift for anyone who loves to read, regardless of Fiction or Non-fiction. O. Henry's stories could be thought of as both. Enjoy!!
