About the Author

Born in Yorkshire, Jonathan was then raised and educated in Edwinstowe, a small village nestled on the fringe of Sherwood Forest, and then in Nottingham and Oxford.

He began grown-up life as a trainee mining engineer, but quickly realized he belonged above ground, and soon followed his heart into education. During a teaching career, spanning 17 years, he taught in schools in the UK until 2006, and since then in international schools in Thailand and China.

Although Jonathan felt that teaching was his vocation, his passion has always been writing, whether it was writing for pleasure, or short stories and other texts for the children in his many classes. He has also written a popular blog: Kiwi Shanghaied in Asia, and more recently has set sail as a self-published author.

In 2001, he embarked on a life-changing backpacking trip around the two main islands of New Zealand and fell head-over-heels in love with the country and its people. Some twelve years after that fateful expedition, he wrote his first book entitled, More to Life? Searching for Meaning Amongst the Kiwis, which is a travelogue documenting his travels around New Zealand, and describing, often in humorous detail, the multitude of places and people he encountered on his journey, and expounding on his quest to find more meaning in his life.

Well and truly bitten by the self-publishing bug, this year Jonathan has begun writing the exciting 26-book Countdown Mysteries™series. In this exciting new series of children's books, the main characters are three young children who, with a shared passion for reading mystery books, and with a hi-tech basement clubhouse and a variety of gadgets, work together and use their combined detective skills to solve mysteries and crimes in their small, fictional town of Anchor Bay.

Jonathan says, "It's funny how life turns out; I travelled to the other side of the world, hoping to find a way to add more meaning to my life when all I had to do was write."
