Not everyone has the same perception when it comes to love, which is why Amelia, 'Millie,' Fox felt courageous enough to make it on her own and leave her troubled past behind her. Confident that she needs to find herself before letting anyone else in was always her top priority. Yet lurking beneath her strategic demeanour the search for the promised land and the promised person was something which continued to simmer beneath the surface. As hope starts to diminish she holds onto a light which continues to burn as the destination comes into view. Blinded by the mirage and willing to sacrifice everything she has come to know blends into a tale of deceit and grand theft. Love, the first book to be printed in the West, and a harrowing renunciation merge together to create her ideal illusion.

This book is filled with depth. From growing up surrounded by addiction to the feeling of never quite being able to fit in. I am sure that we can all relate to the latter at some point in our lives. Then along comes something new, which gives a tremendous amount of hope along with a sprinkling of naivety. Or so you think. This tale has it all and I am glad I found it. It details the opposite ends of society and the hierarchy in such a way that you wonder if there is any difference at all. But then “it” comes and when it does it sends chills down your spine and leaves you wondering even more. A remarkable tale! Haunting in sense of never knowing what any of us are capable of.
A heartfelt story which made me laugh, cry and ultimately sympathise with the main character. From a terrible upbringing to a whole new beginning I really rooted for her, even when she showed a darkness to her personality, which in all fairness you would think is warranted considering the circumstances. But the twist at the end makes perfect sense even though I never saw it coming! What a wonderful, emotional story, I couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards.
