Contains three solo oboe concertos from a collection in Herschel's autograph of ten concertos for various instruments acquired by the Music Library of the U. of California at Berkeley at the time of the sale of the Herschel family papers in 1958. The manuscripts contain precise written directions for many assumed performance practices employed by 18th century oboists. Although the works cannot be classified as great music in the tradition of Haydn or Mozart, they are innovative examples of a superb analytic mind driven by an obsession for order and coherence.
