About the Author

Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish. She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below. Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all. Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world. The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone.

As soon as this book came out I wanted it and managed to snag an advanced copy. I felt so invested in Maria's life and needed to know what happened next. Demelza Carlton leaves a timeline throughout these mermaid books so I should have seen it coming. This story line is filled with incredible highs and paralysing lows that make it hard to put down. I read it in one sitting, making one handed drinks and giving grunts in answer to questions I probably should have paid more attention to. Thank goodness it was the weekend! Without giving away spoilers, there was a moment in which my jaw hung slackly and my heart froze. I was warned, but didn't want to believe. The character of the strong Scotsman is as appealing as ever and Maria's bungling innocence in the world of land walking humans is endearing. You won't regret diving into this mermaid series.
