No words could match the impact of this phenomenal book other than Dr. Shay's in the actual book. This book puts aside the bravado, daring, and drama to show why our warriors truly are heroes. Through his research and experience, Dr. Shay and others who study PTSD have done more to support our troops than a million Blue Star Mom's ever could. No offense to Blue Star Moms. This should be required reading for anyone who leads warriors, loves warriors, or could put our warriors to work by their decisions.

As a trauma therapist, Jon Shay's Odysseus in America is an invaluable resource. I recommend it to Warriors as well as other therapists. Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, our first epic poems are about how Soldiers develop Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and the road to recovery. But after every war, until post Vietnam, we have forgotten or ignored what our Warriors experienced.
