Are you sure this little rascal was a preacher's kid? Pity his poor mother! This demands a sequel.

"Try to imagine a world without electricity, gas, or indoor plumbing, no air conditioning or central heat, no washing machines or dryers, no  refrigerators, TV's, telephones or vacuum cleaners." This sentence sums up the environment in very rural Mississippi that the author grew up in. Follow his hilarious and insightful tales of youthful mischief and countless interactions with friends and family I enjoyed reading every episode.

If you've ever loved an animal beyond measure, Old Pup and the preacher's four-legged friends will steal you heart. Takes us back to our roots, a time when family, friends, and faith triumphed over hard times. This story is pure Americana, a great read for summer vacation.

A wonderful book written from the viewpoint of a young boy raised on a farm in Mississippi during the depression. He comes from a family that is poor in material possessions but God fearing and full of love. To Ben, animals come right after God and family and he always finds a way to make the most of his sparse life with every kind of animal; pigs, turkeys, an insane mule and best of all hunting dogs. He is a prankster and a fellow collaborator in anyone's crazy idea that sounded like fun while staying out of the reach of the ever present rattlesnakes. Although Ben has a strong sense of what is right and wrong, you will find these stories full of the inventiveness of childhood mixed with the love of God's creatures. Great stories, a must read.

This is a marvelous read, the true life story of a young man growing up in rural Mississippi when times were difficult. The author is definitely the second coming of Mark Twain. Interesting, informative, sometimes heartbreaking, but every page tweaking your interest. The author's parents were the kind of people that made America exceptional. Dad was a preacher, a farmer, a hunter and trapper and a hero to young Bennett. Mom made sure the children have enough to eat, clothes to wear, and hope in their heart. Knowing Bennett now, his early life story is even more amazing. Once you begin to read the book, you won't be able to put it down. Then once you have read it, reach out to the author Bennett Easterling and I am sure he will warm your heart with his compassion, kindness and unconditional love for all people.

This book just makes you feel good.  It's an honest and heartwarming look at the world the way it used to be.  It recaptures the charm, joy, and hardships of growing up in the deep South, and shows that you didn’t have to have a lot to live a very full life.  It brought a smile to my face and had me longing for the simplicity and innocence of the old days.
