Welcome to The Buoys, a West Coast haven where love comes in with the tide. The Fishing for Trouble series features three unforgettable brothers, each of whom is a great catch.

RITA FINALIST—CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE: MID-LENGTH

Major league pitcher Liam O’Donnell knows his best days are probably behind him, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to retire and become a fishing guide. Still, after all the time he’s spent chasing his dreams, he owes it to his brothers to pull his weight around the lodge. The Buoys is their father’s legacy, and they can’t let some developer take it from them. The one snag Liam isn’t counting on is a blast from the past: his ex-wife.

The moment Kate Hadley steps out of the seaplane, she knows this assignment is going to be trickier than she thought. She has to persuade the owners to sell—and one of them is Liam O’Donnell. Ten years ago, she made the biggest mistake of her life when she married Liam during a fling in Vegas. Now he’s her only lifeline in the middle of nowhere. Kate’s trying to keep things cool, but Liam reminds her of the scorching few nights they spent together—and tempts her to make new memories that are just as steamy as the old.

Drewry built these two so well, showing their weaknesses and strengths - a second chance that can’t be ignored. An admitted fan of the work of Laura Drewry, I couldn’t pass up the chance to read her new book that highlights a second chance romance. Ten years ago Liam and Kate were married in Vegas in one of those ‘youthful foolish moments’. That moment impacted them both to this day, and now things are starting to heat up. Liam always wanted to be a professional baseball pitcher, and single mindedly pursued that dream. After success and achievement, his pitching career is coming to an end, and it’s time for him to pitch in with the family business, a fishing retreat called The Buoys on an offshore island, getting it profitable and ready to withstand the threat from development into a typical retreat. Kate works for the developer that is interested in the Buoys, but doesn’t expect to see Liam there, and instantly the memories of their moments, and her leaving him alone in Vegas are stirred. While she wants to ensure her position in the company and continue her career trajectory, she’s not sure she can work with Liam (or against him). These two actually are mature enough to realize that they need to communicate and work to SOME end, neither actually does, at first meeting, think it will be a rekindling of their relationship. Drewry built these two so well, showing their weaknesses and strengths, the effect their short relationship had on them both, and the sparks that still are smoldering there. Perfect for one another, Liam and Kate slowly discover that a second chance for them is something that can’t be ignored. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Liam and Kate only knew each other a few days when they decided to get married. They met in Las Vegas and it was an impulsive act. Liam changed his mind, left Kate without giving her a good reason and sent her divorce papers not much later. They never told anybody about their marriage. Kate mainly felt ashamed and didn't think she'd ever see Liam again. Fate decides otherwise though. Because of Kate's job she and Liam meet each other again in the most unexpected circumstances. Kate is being sent to the Buoys to help Liam and his brothers fix the place without knowing up front that it's his family business she's being assigned to. Liam's father passed away and he and his brothers are trying to keep the property in the family. The Buoys is a beautiful remote place and fishing trips are their main source of income. They don't want a big property developer to turn their family business into a luxurious hotel. They want it to remain the small and cozy place it is now. Kate's boss was a friend of Liam's father and he's offering Kate's help to get things up and running again. If they can't manage he will take over and buy the Buoys from them. That's something Liam wants to prevent at all costs. Liam is a professional baseball player and after a nasty injury he's trying to get his career back on track. His break comes at the exact right moment and gives him time to work at the Buoys. When he meets Kate he immediately feels the same as when he married her, but will she give him another chance and does he want one when he doesn't even know yet if he belongs on a field or in a boat? Off the Hook is a wonderful original story. I immediately loved the setting, the Buoys is a magical place. I had fun reading about the business and loved the determination of the main characters to make something of it with the small budget they have. I fell in love with the setting and their plans and enjoyed reading about everything that happened. The Buoys is secluded, there are few modern conveniences and it's peaceful and quiet, while at the same time a lot is going on. I absolutely loved that contrast. Kate is a talented woman. She's done so many different things in her life that she's good at everything. She managed to get a degree while working as hard as she could and she found a good job. She has a strong work ethic, is driven to do well at whatever she does and she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty. I loved her no-nonsense attitude and liked that it is clear from the start that she can take care of herself. She also has a softer side though, she's understanding and sweet and she genuinely wants to help Liam and his brothers. Liam is smitten, but he doesn't know how to give in to those feelings. He's got a lot of issues and Kate somehow makes them all better, which is incredibly endearing. They have amazing chemistry and they complement one another. Liam shows Kate his world and makes her part of everything he enjoys about it, which is another thing I really liked about Off the Hook. They are such a great team and every day they spend together their bond becomes more powerful. Laura Drewry has a lovely easy flowing writing style. Her descriptions of both her main characters and their surroundings are expressive and dynamic. Her story is unique, enchanting and entertaining. The setting is romantic, the characters are charming and sympathetic and the storyline is creative and surprising. I highly recommend Off the Hook, it's a terrific captivating story w

Off the Hook is the first in the Fishing for Trouble series. In it, we are introduced to a tight knit family that owns and operates a fishing resort off the West coast of Canada. This first book gave us the second-chance romance of Kate and Liam. They are ex husband and wife whom have not seen each other since their brief Vegas marriage ended 10 years ago! These two really pulled at my heart strings because you could equally feel their attraction and their reservations with each other. Neither came from the ideal childhood, but they both worked hard to turn into the adults they are now. Kate wasn't the fragile damsel that female leads are often portrayed as and I admired her so much for her strength and self-love! As for the setting, The Buoys, easily made it to one of my top 5 favorite fictional places! I'm almost positive this is my first book set in Canada and I was not disappointed. The seclusion sounded heavenly and its lack of luxury only made it that much more appealing. I can't wait to get more of this place, these characters, and their stories! My problem with Off the Hook was with its pacing. It seemed to really drag at times and I felt bored on more than one occasion. The last couple of chapters were a lot better paced so I'm hoping the slow start was just due to the author getting more comfortable with the story line she was creating. Laura Drewry did an amazing job at making each character stand out. Those characters were easily what captured me the most from this story. I fell in love with them as a whole, but each one had something special that made me like them as an individual. I'm really looking forward to reading Finn & Ronan's books and seeing this group develop as a whole!

This book is well written and has several twists and surprises right up to the end. Yes, I'm taking the easy way out by not writing too much; but, the other reviewers are spot on.

There was nothing I didn’t like about this book from its cute funny plot to the unique way it was written. I have always loved second change loves most of us have that one person we would love to have a second chance with at one time or other which makes this a story that is easy to relate to. Ten years before they married in one wild night in Vegas he was an up and coming pitcher realizing this could harm his career he left sending her divorce papers. He might have left but out of sight out of mind was not the case here. She is never far from his mind throughout the years to come. Kate woke up after a wild night to find her husband gone with no forwarding address. She is at the lowest point in her life with no money and nowhere to go. Working hard she has risen above it all getting a good job never expecting to come face to face with Liam again. They maybe at different places in life but the chemistry still there and the pull is stronger than ever. This really has an outstanding plot with wonderful characters the back story is outstanding giving you their history. I loved that even after 10 years they still have a powerful chemistry that pulls them together. I really enjoyed the conflict and the twists and turns the author gave the story. This is a wonderful beginning to a wonderful series. The author pulls you in giving you a book you can’t put down or can’t wait for the next one in the series. I can’t wait to see how this series grows meeting new and old characters is going to be a blast.

As soon as I read the synopsis for "Off the Hook" I knew it was something that I wanted to read. I will admit that it took a bit of time for me to get into the book, but once I did, I was hooked. Laura Drewry creates a storyline and characters who are real and have some depth. Each character has a backstory which leads them to where they are today. I really enjoyed the character of Liam O'Donnell. Coming off an injury, he is destined to work at his families Fishing Lodge in Canada (by the way I am Canadian and from BC) so this story really appealed to me. I loved the fact that there are so many Canadian elements in this storyline, which was quite an appeal. Liam's character is struggling with where he should go and who he should be and when his ex Kate Hadley comes flying into the picture, it opens a door that both are not sure they should enter. I love Kate, as she is a strong-willed, female character who always goes after what she wants. Kate's life has not been the typical female character lead and the positions she has held were not either - like a true Canadian girl. The spontaneity and spunk that Kate possess is fresh and exciting, which is another reason I really enjoyed this book. The connection and chemistry between the two characters is greatly written and explored and Laura Drewry did a fantastic job in writing a book that I quite enjoyed. Off the Hook is definitely a book that you will need to put on your To-Be-Read Shelf and would make for an excellent beach read this summer season. If you are Canadian, this is a must read!

Loved this fantastic storyline. When you combine romance with a unique and totally different storyline, stunningly beautiful description and characters that completely captivate you, you have a must read book and that is what I found in this sweet second chance romance. The authors detailed descriptive narrative places the reader firmly at The Buoys. I felt as if I was surrounded by the sights and sounds and character of this West Coast haven where love does come in with the tide. This first story in the Fishing for Trouble series had me struggling to put it down, because I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Though it had a great pace I couldn't read it fast enough. The chemistry and attraction between Liam and Kate was obvious and I couldn't help wishing that things would work out for them this time, even when it seemed that the timing may be against them. Liam and Kate's relationship was fun to watch develop as they spent more and more time together. Loved Liam's brothers Ronan and Finn as well as family friend Jessie. The love between these amazing brothers was real and deep, even after some past issues they have had to deal with. Coming together to try and save the family's Legacy The Buoys a run down fishing lodge. Can't wait to continue getting to know more about these brothers in this series. So if you want to be swept away to the North West Coast for a sweet second chance love story, Off The Hook by Laura Drewry is your book. Loved it. Highly recommended. I enjoyed every moment I spent with this book, the story is fun, with subtle humor and banter between the brothers, it has high emotions, without being filled with angst and despair, it has sweet, adorable, yet very passionate romance, that made me sigh. And in a great balance and lovely flow, no less. I loved the determination, focus, and dedication the group had, to fix the resort back to what it can be. The hard work, the sweat, and the blood, it was all towards the greater goal, to restore their family's legacy. I was prepared to all fun and romance, then it hits with the brother's childhood drama, and tragedy. Liam has to go deep, to find acceptance to the past, forgiveness, and move on. It was raw, yet beautiful. Liam and Kate, There was something very much 'easy' between them. No high drama, no screaming, fighting, accusations. Even though their past could warranty all that, they took the high road, and I loved it! They talk, they share, they become friends while working together. And they work well together, they have a rhythm that compliments each other, a connection that makes them understand each other, and attraction that makes them want to consume each other at ones. I savored the story, I didn't want to depart from the characters, they are so easy to relate to and fun to be around. There's baseball, the good and the bad side of it. Fishing, brothers who fight, but stand up for each other, whales, hard work, and pain, and lust filled adoration and ardor between Liam and Kate... I'm eagerly waiting for the next story in the series, cause this one is a home run! ~ Five Spoons

Off The Hook is a wonderful example of a great read that you can sit down and enjoy in just a few hours and be thoroughly entertained throughout. I just love Liam. He was great example of leading man that we want to enjoy reading about. I love that he knows what he want and isn't afraid to go after it. Kate is just a nice person and very sweet too. Often times we don't see that type of personality in these types of stories. Together they make a great team and a great match. There was plenty of steamy moments and fun interactions along the way. The author gave us all different types of twists and turns in this book. I can't say that I enjoyed the ending and what they did to Liam, however I did love that it finished the way we all look for - with a happily ever after. This is a first in a series called "Fishing for Trouble" and I think it'll be a fun and enjoyable one to follow.

Kate Hadley has worked hard to make something out of her life. She finished school and has been working for the last 10 years in the hospitality industry. Her boss has assigned her to oversee a renovation of a prospective property. She travels to the remote fishing camp and is surprised when the property is owned by her ex-husband's family. Kate met Liam in Las Vegas a decade ago and after a quicky wedding/divorce she moved on with her life... Liam never forgot Kate and he always regretted how their marriage ended. They work together to renovate the camp and slowly rebuild their relationship. Liam's life is complicated by an injury that ended his baseball career and Kate doesn't know her boss as well as she should. Will Liam and Kate have a happy ending? Read and find out. I liked this book, because the leading character were well written, strong individuals that had a realistic relationship. I liked the supporting characters and am looking forward to the next book in the series. I was given a free copy for an honest review.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas … sometimes! Kate is sent off to a new assignment to rescue a failing fishery business/hotel. The moment she stepped off the sea plane I was hooked .. she is determined to go in and sort out the family business and gain a possible take-over, business is ruthless right? What she doesn’t bargain for is her past to come back and bite her on the bum .. the remote fishing guide holiday outlet is run by a family of three brothers .. one of those brothers just happens to be Liam her ex-husband! Super sexy Liam! This is such a sweet story, yes he is a former/comeback baseball star but there is so much more to the story than this so don’t let that put you off if sport isn’t your thing. The dynamics between all the guys and Jessie the woman who runs the place is such a thrill to read. Kate sets to work in the hope the past can be put behind her but can it!? Cute romance, filled with love, humour, friendship and strong family bonds the setting sounds idyllic. Not so sure about the bear threat lol but from a distance I would love to see them. This is the first in a series about the O’Donell brothers and if the rest are as good as this one then it will be a huge success. I absolutely adored it .. great easy read. Looking forward to book two. Thanks to Tasty Book Tours and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for my honest opinion.

3.5 stars I really enjoyed Off the Hook, great start to the Fishing for Trouble series. After ten years apart Liam and Kate find themselves working together and trying to fight the feelings they once shared. Yeah good luck with that lol Liam and Kate were both great characters. I enjoyed watching them reconnect and letting go of the past to open their hearts and loving each other unconditionally. They truly deserved their HEA :) Another plus for me was the relationship between the brothers, they made me laugh and I can't wait to read their stories. I have no doubt The Fishing for Trouble is going to be another great series, thank you Laura Drewry for writing.

What grabbed my attention to read this one was the hero Liam is a baseball player. I'm so glad that I gave this one a read because it's a truly great story. There is a second chance at love, but there are other second chances as well so Liam and his family. Liam and Kate have a history that could just lead the destruction of the family's future with the lodge. This book shows you the true character of Kate because right off the bat she could have been crazy with revenge, but she bucks up and gets her hands dirty. I'm not going to lie I was not a huge fan of Liam right off the bat just for the way he treated Kate back when and his attitude in the beginning, but let me tell you he wins me over rather quickly. What starts off as something that could go horribly wrong turns out to be the best thing to ever happen. You can feel the connection and feelings Liam and Kate have for one another and you hope like heck that grab their second chance with both hands.

A fun second chance romance :) I really enjoyed reading Off the Hook--all the characters were so easy to like, and they played well off of each other throughout. Liam and Kate made a great couple--things definitely weren't right for them the first time around (not that that excuses Liam's actions, but at least he finally gets around to delivering an apology. Late, but still heartfelt) but now? Look out. From their painfully awkward reunion to their managing to get along for the sake of the job to their first kiss in ten years to more, their gradual relationship rebuild was so much fun to watch. It definitely doesn't hurt that the book's setting, a fishing lodge on a small island on Canada's west coast, pretty much fits my idea of heaven on earth. It even made the idea of going fishing sound tempting--okay, so I'd just hitch a ride on the fishing boat, book in hand (preferably book 2 in this series)--still, it sounds divine. And with a book boyfriend like Liam, I might never want to return to shore... ;) Off the Hook is full of second chance angst and awesome family dynamics--pretty much every time Liam, Finn, Ro, and Jessie are on the page together, you're guaranteed a fun time; I can't wait until the rest of them each get their own book! A new-to-me-author, a brand new series, and my TBR grows again! Rating: 4 stars / A I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

Favorite Quotes: “She was gorgeous and funny and he’d been instantly smitten. Wasn’t a word he’d ever use outside his own head, but there really was no other way to accurately describe her effect on him. Smitten.” “If Liam hadn’t known better, he’d have sworn she’d never seen the ocean before. Everything about it seemed to amaze her, from the way the sun danced across the water with diamond tap shoes to the way gulls bobbed up and down over the swells without a care in the world.” My Review: This author paints pictures with gorgeous words and metaphors. It astounded me – there were several passages where I needed to stop, reread, and savor - as they were just lovely. This is my first time reading Laura Drewry but I am greedily plan on hitting her listings and increasing my bulging TBR. Off The Hook was well written, well paced, relevant, emotive, and engrossing. I adored these characters and fretted for them, cheered them on, and smiled and sighed with their pleasure. I would love to make a return visit to this cove, please Ms. Drewry, there are more brothers - just saying...

Laura Drewry is one of those authors that I will buy without even reading the books description! Off the Hook is definitely not something that I would have thought I'd be interested in but as usual, she had me from the very first page!!! It's a great start to a new series and I'm ready for the next installment already!

Sweet, original story about love, hard work and reconnection. Kate and Liam have a lot of baggage, and the biggest obstacle they're facing is how to put the Buoys resort back together while fighting their attraction for each other. With two different business agendas, they go about their days rebuilding a fishing vacation destination and rebuilding their relationship in the process. Filled with likable characters and a multifaceted plot, Off the Hook is sure to please! *I received an arc from NetGalley for an honest review

2.5 Stars I liked the idea of this book more than the execution. Let me explain. This book was about Liam and Kate. It was their romance. Except we got to know the supporting cast really well, and in some ways, too well. There was a lot of time spent outside the central romance, so it lost most of its romantic tension. So as a romance for Liam and Kate, it really didn't work. It fell, in my opinion, to the curse of a lot of books that are first in a series...the author spent too much time building up the family, the characters, and the what happened in the backstory to really spend time on the Liam and Kate portion, which was supposed to be why we were there in the book. There were unique elements, and I am not sure I have ever read a book about fishing. But, there were also things I don't understand, even after reading...Kate's job, mainly. Still not clear on what exactly she was supposed to do for a living. The end was HEA and a bit predictable. And, while the rating I am giving for this book is not high, I am actually interested in reading the next books in the series, as I think once the author moves away from focusing on the backstory and gets to the real story, there will be a lot to enjoy. ***ARC Provided by the publisher and NetGalley***

en years ago Liam married a girl he met in Vegas. They spent a few wonderful days with her and knew he needed to cut his loss. When 10 years later she shows up to help with his dads resort he never expected to have to come clean and he never thought he would see her again. Will she destroy the resort before him and his brothers can save it or will she help them and leave again? Kate has made a series of mistakes her whole life and she is so happy to have this chance to proof her self and get her dream job. When she steps of the plane and on to the resort she sees Liam the guy she made a mistake with 10 years earlier. Will they be able to work together or will he send her packing? This book was really fun love story, did not seem to be your typical love story which made it a super fun read. I really can't wait to read more from this group I really loved Jessie's roll in Liam and Kate's story and I hope there is more to come from her. This book was a quick and simple read leaving you wanting more as you kept reading and easy page turner. *strong language is the only downside to it but no some much it took away from the story.

Wow. What a great start to a new series! Laura Drewry really started out with a bang with this novel featuring a hot baseball player, a strong-willed heroine and a beautiful, secluded setting (very romantic). Oh, and don't forget the handsome Irish brothers! If you're a fan of Laura Drewry and have read her Friends First series, you won't be disappointed by the Fishing For Trouble series. Her ability to pull the readers into her fictional world and make them feel as if they're right there, looking as the story unfolds from only a few steps away is an element of this book, too. The characters are real, flawed, scared to acknowledge their true feelings, wary, hopeful, strong-willed and sometimes they're just so funny you'll be laughing out loud along with them. Most importantly, they're relatable. They're just normal people who work hard to pursue their dreams, trying to make the best out of what life handed them and learning from their mistakes. I enjoyed the banter, the constant push and pull kept me turning page after page. What I truly loved was the remote setting. It was so beautiful and romantic, I wished so bad I could move there forever. That's another brownie point for Mrs. Drewry, who managed to write an entertaining, romantic, swoony and sexy book (watch out for the bonfire when Kate and Liam surrender to the attraction... it's sizzling hot!) set in a remote fishing lodge with nothing but the characters themselves to provide entertainment; all the while she remained true to her beautiful writing style we all fell in love with when reading the Friends First series. If you've yet to discover Laura Drewry's books, this book will make you fall in love with her stories. If you've adored her previous series, this one won't disappoint you. I can't wait for book two! ***I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***

Laura has quickly become one of my 'go to' authors. This new series is about the O'Donnell Brothers, who after the death of their father, run an out of the way Fishing Lodge in Western Canada. Kate Hadley works for a Property magnate and is sent to The Buoys as he is looking to buy the property out from under the O'Donnells. Kate has some skeletons - the biggest being that she had a week long marriage in Vegas to an up and coming ball player called Liam O'Donnell. She hasnt seen or spoken to him in 10 years till the moment the she gets off the plane at the resort. A story of second chances that had me hook, line and sinker! Copy received via Netgalley.
